Tips for Disney Parks & Cruise Lines
Walt Disney World and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) kids: We have found that keeping our daughter on a regular schedule helps her at home and on vacation. We try to keep regular food and bedtimes. We also try to be in tune with her and not wait for the meltdown to happen. We keep an eye on wait times for rides and always use FastPass. My daughter can wait and actually does amazingly well at WDW, but we know that waiting too long will not work. We have had to leave a line when it was obvious we needed to get away. We also like to plan downtime in the middle of the day for swimming or just resting in the room to regroup. Also, it helps to know which battles to fight and which ones to just let go -- Sandi

Living in Alaska, when we go to Mickey's house, we stay for at least a week -- which means dirty clothes pile up. To keep dirty laundry separate from clean clothes, we bring "dry sacks" used for kayaking. They are lightweight, roll up for easy packing, and the tops roll down and clip to seal in dirty clothes. They come in different colors, so each member of our family has his/her own bag. At the end of the trip, they fit into our luggage for the trip home. They are also washable, so they can be laundered along with the clothes at the end of the trip. - Kim Stricklan
Don't forget to pack a small nylon cinch sack-style kid's backpack along with your ponchos to take into the park each day. That way you won't have to put your wet ponchos back into your dry backpack. One family member can then carry the nylon cinch sack with all the wet ponchos while another family member can wear the daypack with everything still dry inside. - Dale M.
For those who are staying in Home Away from Home accommodations and are interested in grocery delivery, I would highly recommend a company called WeGoShop. They are a national grocery shopping and delivery company, and their Orlando location is run by a husband and wife team who are very nice people. You can email them your exact order (including product brand names, sizes and quantity), your hotel and the time you'd like your delivery, and they will be there with your groceries safely stowed in a large plastic container. They will charge you cost for the items you've bought, as well as a modest delivery charge. Their website is at www.wegoshop.com. Our groceries were just as we'd asked for them, and they even brought them to Bell Services for us as our room wasn't ready yet. - Jessica Slivak

MNSSHP - We recently attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World and loved it. Staying at the Polynesian for two weeks, we saw nightly fireworks over the castle, but I must say the night of the party they were the best. We planned poorly and were caught just outside Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (on the platform for viewing those riding) when the fireworks show began. WOW! What a view! Although the fireworks appear to be behind the castle, they are actually somewhere over behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We had a great view and at one point we were completely surrounded by brilliant circles of color. We were in the center of the ring of fireworks. If you don't care about the castle in front of your fireworks I advise a trip to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to be in the center of it all. AMAZING! - dollydawne

Every year, from vacation to vacation, I save change. I have ended up with anywhere from $75 to $210 at the end of the year. I reserve this money for tips. It's money I never missed and money I won't miss giving out as a tip to our driver, to the bellman, to the taxi driver and so on. Joanie
For every Disney vacation since 2001, I've made a "journal" of my trip. Each night, I'd make a list of what I did that day in order. Then, when I get back home, I type a journal of my vacation with lots of small details (color monorail we rode, row we sat in on Splash Mountain, etc). It is an excellent way to relive a vacation from years ago! - Robert

I'm going to WDW with my family and we are meeting my sister and cousin there. To get them even more excited about the trip, I sent them a box of little presents to open daily, every day of the month before we meet at Disney World. I have included small Disney items -- for example, a postage stamp, sticker, countdown calendar, and Disney bracelet. One of my favorites is a placemat that I made simply by taking a gift box and cutting off the sides. I put numbered pictures on both sides and even included some Hidden Mickeys! The pictures are of places all over the "World." I included instructions for them to try to decipher where each picture was taken. (This is kind of like your game of "Where in the World Are We?") On one side, I put pictures from all over, but the other side I filled up with pictures only taken in Epcot! I covered the whole thing with contact paper. Since they haven't been to WDW in years, this will be a fun little way for them to get reacquainted with the parks! - Alea
ANIMAL KINGDOM - Here is a tip that will surely be helpful and save others LOTS of money! The bridge over Kali River Rapids is the perfect place to take pictures of your group as they float down the river. It is a great meeting point after the ride as well. What the bridge is NOT good for is "reloading" your pockets after the ride. My husband put his wallet and cell phone in the stroller to keep them dry while he rode. I put my "fanny pack" in it. Smart idea. After everyone rode using child swap, (the stroller was never unattended!) we got the stuff out of the stroller to put back on. The slats on the bridge's handrails aren't very wide -- they wouldn't want a small child to fall through. But guess what? They are just wide enough to allow a cell phone, dropped on the bridge, to bounce right through the slats and into the river! Fortunately my husband was in too much shock at what had just happened to be too mad, and EVENTUALLY he even laughed about it! So... be careful of your belongings while standing on the bridge! MNSSHP - The fireworks were really incredible with ghosties on the castle -- I would definitely recommend sitting towards Tomorrowland for a better view. There were even 360 degrees of fireworks around us for the finale! - Jen
