And Delta just revealed a major change to its seating options that we need to discuss.

Delta Airlines is now offering a new tier of seating called “Basic Business.” The goal of this expansion is to give customers access to premium products at a lower price. It also gives more choice for customers to tailor their travel experience to what is most important to them.

The Basic tier will give customers access to the premium onboard experiences as Classic and Extra options, but at a lower price. However, this lower price does include several trade-offs, such as:

  • Seats assigned after check-in
  • Reduced checked bag allowance
  • Lower mileage earn
  • No complimentary or paid upgrades
  • No same-day confirmed or same-day standby travel changes
  • Changes or cancellations for a fee

Customers with a Basic ticket can also only access Delta Sky Clubs through another means of entry other than their ticket, such as a Delta Sky Club membership or a credit card that grants them access as a perk. Below you can see all the perks of the three seating tiers.
