Tips about Food & Beverage, Planning and Transportation
I pack a travel French Press to ANY Walt Disney World resort hotel. The inability to get fresh-brewed coffee at WDW is frustrating to a coffee drinker like me! I only need one good cup in the morning for me and it makes my day. You can get a travel coffee press from online retailers for $20. It's only slightly bigger than a soda can and easily fits in a carry-on. Simply put the grounds in the bottom (you can buy Mickey coffee at the hotel), add hot water, wait 5-10 minutes, press, and pour a great cup of coffee!

For anyone who has celiac disease or wheat allergies in general, Tony's Town Square was a treat. Two of my traveling party have celiac disease and the chefs were amazing. So many options for gluten-free, including pasta and special gluten-free, dairy-free meatballs. We all ate like royalty the entire trip and can't wait to go back. - Richelle H.

We happened upon a wonderful mid-day break for our Chicago area family during our Christmas break trip to Walt Disney World. We stayed off property. The kids (8 and 6) were more excited about the monorail than they were about anything else at Epcot. To kill time until our FASTPASS+ time on Soarin', and to satisfy their curiosity, we took a ride on the monorail after lunch. It was a fun, air-conditioned trip that gave them a sensory break from the heat and intense sounds of touring, they got to see other parts of WDW and we were all totally refreshed when we came back to Epcot about half an hour later. It didn't cost us anything extra and it was just their speed! - Ruth Gauss
EDITOR'S NOTE: Please be careful of your timing. Monorails can be in holding periods or be delayed leaving you in a situation where you will not be able to make your FastPass+ time window.

Epcot - We found that the Electric Umbrella restaurant at Epcot has free drink refills... not only for soft drinks but for apple juice as well, which worked out great for our little one. This is the only "quick service" restaurant we visited that didn't give us a juice box when we ordered her a kid's meal with juice. - Michelle P.

Going to a sit-down, outdoor presentation on a cold winter's night? Here's a simple, easy-to-carry way to keep your rump from freezing: bring one of those bubble-wrap filled envelopes of an appropriate size to sit on. The bubble-wrap insulates your nether regions from that cold, cold seat, is light as a feather and is easily carried in one of those many Disney World plastic bags you've acquired. It makes quite a difference! - Mamayama
Even though Tables in Wonderland hasn't officially announced that the 20% discount would be available at La Hacienda de San Angel in Mexico, I asked our server anyway if they took the discount and they did. So be sure to let your server know if you have it! - Jeannine Wallace
EDITOR'S NOTE: The official word from the Tables In Wonderland people is that the discount is not valid at La Hacienda de San Angel. It never hurts to ask though.

I really wanted to make a reservation for T-REX: A Prehistoric Family Adventure restaurant during our upcoming trip, but the Disney online reservation system was showing absolutely no availability for dinner. So, I looked up the phone number for the restaurant and called them directly. I told them I wanted anything they had for a certain night and they told me I could pick any time I wanted because all the times were available. The phone number I used was 407-828-TREX. Definitely give them a call if you're having trouble getting a reservation. - Whitney

When using the auto train (highly recommended if traveling from the Northeast) don't forget to bring ear plugs, electronic devices for entertainment (there are outlets at each seat), and some motion sickness pills (even if you're not prone to getting sick, they are great for helping you sleep). You can also bring your own cooler on board for drinks and snacks (nothing too smelly for your fellow travelers, though!) It is nice to have your own car with everything in it and not have to lug it all through the airports, plus you can bring a lot more than when you're flying. - Christine

We think one of the "hidden secrets" at Walt Disney World is The Wave restaurant at the Contemporary Resort. As a person with a variety of health problems, and always looking for the healthiest thing to eat, I found that this restaurant had the best and tastiest selection of healthy food anywhere. The multi-grain bread is out of this world, especially when used for the lunch Reuben. Not only that, but there are discounts for Disney Vacation Club members and no problems getting a table, especially for lunch. This is a great place for a break from the parks or just a special visit to the wonderful Contemporary Resort. - Helen Phelps

We had the free dining plan during our visit to the World in August (as did 90% of all guests, according to a cast member). Due to some poor planning and indecisiveness, we were unable to get any dining reservations during our stay. However, we did eat very well. We walked into every restaurant of our choice and waited less than 15 minutes! Only 30 minutes in Canada. The trick is that we planned our meals for either the opening time of the restaurant or 2 to 4 p.m. Plenty of tables are available at those times. - Joanne

Free Dining is sometimes offered with a resort package. My trip dates didn't include all of the free dining dates. I called Disney reservations to ask how I could take advantage of the free dining that is being offered and got a wonderful agent who checked into it for me. When she came back on the line, she had booked my trip for free dining for all 10 days. My tip is even if your dates are only partially covered, CALL! You may be able to get the whole trip included. It definitely made for a magical day in my house. - Stefanie
I just returned from WDW and found a great place on the Disney bus route to get water without having to take a city bus to Goodings. The Hess Mart across from Disney Springs West Side (Planet Hollywood) sells 24 17-oz. bottles of water for $4.99 (as well as other beverages). Take the DTD bus to the West Side stop and walk across the street to the Hess Mart. The DTD buses only stop at the West Side starting at 11 a.m. (which was something I didn't know). Thanks to the bellman at Saratoga Springs for the tip about the water. - pnazareth1

Restaurant.com currently has several restaurants at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels in their system, as well as House of Blues. Garden Grove, Shula's Steakhouse, Kimonos, Il Mulino New York Trattoria, and Todd English's bluezoo are all in there. You can get a $25 gift certificate for $10 (less if you search for a current promo code) and the certificates never expire. Make sure to read the restrictions on minimum purchase and days of the week they are valid, but overall these are a great deal! We use them at home all the time -- glad to know we can use them on vacation, too! - Tracy Roth
