Tips about Epcot, Planning, Rental Car and Resorts

Epcot - Just wanted to add to the reason to pick up a Passport kit from Epcot. I got one on our last trip and secretly had each country stamp and write Happy Birthday to my husband on the Passport. A month after we got home it was my husband's birthday, so I put the Passport in a Mickey birthday card. He was very pleased and surprised with his multi-language greetings. - Sue Schultz

Epcot - On our last trip to Epcot, we purchased the passport set that allows children (or adults who are children at heart) to visit the Kidcot stations in each country and get a passport stamp. On that day, my daughter happened to be wearing a Minnie Mouse shirt that was personalized with her name, Isabelle, on the front. That turned out to be wonderful, since every time she went to get her stamp, the Disney cast member would write her name in their native language. I think they normally do this, but they never had to ask her name since it was on her shirt and every cast member seemed to notice it right away. Our most recent trip to Disney was a very busy one between extra activities and dinner reservations. Before leaving home, I prepared a schedule, which upon arrival I posted on the fridge (we stayed in a villa) with magnets I brought from home. This way, everyone knew where and when they needed to be somewhere. - Ann

Epcot - We went to WDW in October to avoid the crowds. It was almost sucessful! Epcot was jammed like New Year's Eve because of the Food and Wine Festival. My suggestion is to go to Epcot very early in the morning to catch the normal stuff and then come back later to enjoy the Festival! - William

Port Orleans Riverside - I go to the gym daily, it's part of my lifestyle. As you know, gyms are only located in the deluxe resorts in Disney. Last trip we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I advised the concierge there that I would be staying at Port Orleans Riverside next trip and asked about gym accommodations. I was told that I could attend any gym for a $35 fee that would cover my entire length of stay. When we checked into Port Orleans Riverside recently, I inquired about the gym fee, and was told that guests staying at Port Orleans can use the gym at Saratoga Springs at no charge! This was an extra savings that was unexpected! - Linda A. Graffagnini

To locate my rental car without an antenna more quickly in the lot we take along our Baltimore Ravens flag that attaches to the car window. It is one of those flags hung on a plastic holder that gets rolled up in your car window. You roll the window down, place the flag's holder on the window and then roll the window back up. I know I have seen them with the American flag, sports teams and state flags. It is easier to spot the car since not too many cars have these and it is higher than the car's roof. - Kathie Sweeney

Rick (in last week's AllEars®) had a good idea about using a Mickey antenna topper to help identify a rental car in the parking lot. Many cars no longer have antenna, however (mine does not). Another possibility is to use a magnetic bumper sticker. It's not quite as easy to see, but it will shorten your search once you're down to the right row. - A. D. Johnson

I would like to add a tip for finding your rental car or your own car in the WDW parking lot. I make a large Mickey head out of black construction paper and attach it to the inside of the back window of the vehicle. On the Mickey in large white letters is our family last name and state! This worked great in our earlier years visiting the parks when we did not stay in WDW resorts. - Robin

EPCOT - My family was reminiscing about our trip last year and my husband reminded me of something I wanted to share: for the Illuminations show in Epcot, pay attention to which way the wind is blowing! We ended up sitting downwind and all the soot blew all over us. We had to close our eyes and duck our heads several times to avoid it! - Sharon Smith

Don't be afraid to use GoLynx, the public buses serving Orlando. Using the No. 50 gets you to Seaworld and I-Drive from the Ticket and Transportation Center and Disney Springs. The No. 111 is a direct bus to the Florida Mall. It's cheap, reliable and punctual, and way cheaper than shuttles or taxis. - Diane

For those of you who rent a car, you know that in the parking lots it is nearly impossible to tell them apart and find your own. They are all silver, mid-sized, etc. I always bring my old Mickey antenna toppper and put it on the car as soon as I pick it up. It makes it easier to find the car in those crowded lots. Just remember to get a new one for home. - Rick
