Tips about Epcot, Food & Beverage, Planning, Resorts and Special Events
My husband and I packed an entire bag full of presents. My sister and I packed a three-foot artificial Christmas tree, and we had collected several ornaments prior to our trip. Add some Christmas lights, and it was a miniature version of home! We set it up late Christmas Eve, when everyone was asleep. You can imagine their surprise when they saw it Christmas morning complete with gifts! We even strung some lights in our hotel window! We just had it shipped home when our trip was over so we didn't have to deal with it on the plane. My mother has set it up along with her real tree every year since! - Laura Bonke
If you are going to the Studios that day and are not interested in seeing the celebrities, I'd say don't let the crowds scare you. Most folks in the park that day are there waiting to see the soap opera stars, therefore most attractions have low to moderate wait times.
-- Take advantage of the 4 p.m. entry into the Magic Kingdom. Your Christmas Party ticket will get you into the park, no need to use a day on your general admission tickets.
-- If you are going to attend Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and wish to purchase a souvenir tee or sweatshirt, make sure to purchase one before you leave the park the night you attend. This merchandise is only available during the party.
-- Because you're paying extra for this special event, you probably want to get the most for your money. For many of us, that means enjoying all the holiday activities and entertainment that can only be done at the party before spending time on the usual attractions that are open every day.
-- Ride the Jingle Cruise, a holiday-themed version of Adventureland's Jungle Cruise, which runs during the holiday season.
-- Eat dinner, but save room for the complimentary cookies and hot cocoa served during the party (locations indicated on the party guide map).
-- Stop by the Fire House in Town Square and pick up your special Christmas edition Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card. This year's card feature's Elsa from the movie "Frozen." You don't have to play the game during the party, but you can only collect this special themed card at the party. You must have your admission ticket (card or MagicBand) and a party wristband to claim your Sorcerers card. - AllEars® Tips
-- In a zipper-type bag, we pack an easy to rinse bib and kid-sized plastic "silverware" and take them to the parks each day for our little guy. You can also pack a plastic table cover. Forks at Disney restaurants can be huge!
-- I bring special glow stuff (necklaces, bracelets, etc.) for every night we are going to be at the parks after dark. It's so much cheaper, and the kids love it just as much. Often people will ask us where we found it.
-- Find something fun to take pictures of in each country at Epcot. For example, I took a picture of my 3-year-old in a different hat that reflected the type they would wear in that country. We looked for hats in each gift shop as a family challenge.
-- Bring a small bag of toys for the kids so that they can play in their downtime at the resort. Kids need time to just play! Toys that can be played with in the tub are great because you can kill two birds with one stone! You can bring matchbox-sized cars to the park in your bag for the kids to drive around while waiting for shows, parades or in lines. Small posable plastic figures work well, too. Four crayons and a tiny dollar store sticker/coloring book are also great for a long wait.
-- At 10, my daughter feels too big to dress like a princess, but I found a cool tiara headband that she agreed to wear and she loved being recognized as a princess. For our breakfast with the Princesses, she wore an outfit we put together that I called a modern-day Belle. She wore a blue, ruffled skirt, and a white ruffled shirt, and completed the look with her hair in a ponytail of curled ringlets off to the side, a blue bow in her hair and a French-inspired necklace. I let her wear makeup and sprayed her hair and outfit with glitter spray found in the party section at a discount store.
