Tips about ChildId

Our daughter was two on our most recent Disney trip. She knew her name but we wanted some security in case she was separated from us for any reason. We went to Walmart where they have the machine that makes luggage and pet tags. For a few dollars, we made a red heart shaped tag with her name and our cell phone number as well as her Godfather's number at home. We then put it on a chain under her clothing. We explained to her that she was show this to someone with a CM pin if she got lost. She didn't take it off the entire trip as she loved her new jewelry! - Lisa McGrail

I wanted to share one tip that has brought me great peace of mind when we travel with our children. Take a current, wallet-sized school picture of your child(ren) with you on your trip. Keep this in your wallet or other water-proof place that you will have with you at all times. On the back of the picture, record the following: Name, Age, Height, Weight, Hair & eye color, Any identifying information (glasses/contacts, braces, birthmarks, moles, scars, etc). Also record any chronic illness, medication, allergies or disabilities. You'll probably never have to use it, but just in case your child became missing/lost you would have a good picture and detailed information with you to give to authorities to help in the search. - Heather Berube

I learned a safety tip a long time ago, growing up next to a major theme park. When you are walking with your children in the parks, hotels, or wherever, occasionally stop walking and ask your children, "If you were by yourself right now and couldn't find me, who would you go to for help?" If they don't know the answer, point out to them who and what is surrounding them (for example, cast members, restaurants, gift shops, security) at that very second. I always tell my son (some of you might not be comfortable with this) that he could also go to mommies who have strollers and little kids with them, and ask for their help. I ask him each and every time to point out to me exactly WHO he can go to for help.

Several years ago, my stepdaughter and I went to WDW and a concern was losing each other. She was 9 years old at the time. At each park, there is a first aid center, and THAT is where I told her we would meet if we lost each other. I thought it would be easier for her to remember this, instead of her trying to remember a different place at each park, and I knew that any Cast Member could get her there; all she had to do was ask. I was not sure if there were several centers at the parks, so I told her that she should get to the first aid center closest to the front gate. We had a great time, her first, my 12th. We didn't lose each other, but I knew where I could find her if we did. - Mary Young

Now with Magic Bands you can write your cell number inside of the band of your child.

We tried to make it easy for someone to contact us if our child was to get lost. We simply put a piece of paper in my son's shorts every day that simply said "Daddy's cell phone," and the phone number. If he was to get lost, we told him to give it to a security guard or a store clerk and that they would call us right away. - Julie

We just got back from Orlando, where my 9-year-old son got temporarily "lost." We purchased a "Who's Shoes ID" before the trip and entered our cell phone numbers on the ID band. Within minutes, after our son showed his ID band to a Cast Member, he was back with us. This product is a must for anyone going to Disney, or any other place with large groups of people. While my children were young, I would always dress them in the same color or same character (e.g. Tigger) that I was wearing. If you get separated, one of the first things the Cast Member will ask you is what are the children are wearing. [When this happened to me] in a pre-panic state I couldn't remember anything except that they had on Tigger shirts. Fortunately that was enough. - Denise

I bought my kids inexpensive Disney character watches before we left home. I wrote their names and my husband's/my cell number on the inside of the band. I explained to them that if they got lost, they could take off the watch and show the phone numbers to a Cast Member (or a person from the airline in the airport). One of my daughters is extremely shy and would probably start to cry and not talk to a stranger if she was separated from us. This gave her a way to communicate in both the parks or the airport. - Hope
