Disney Needs New Rules for Living With the Land

We LOVE EPCOT’s Living with the Land, but that doesn’t mean it’s not due for some new rules…

Living With The Land

The boat ride/greenhouse tour is one of our absolute favorites at Disney World, and we’re willing to die on the hill arguing its greatness. With that said, our team has come up with a few potential rules that would make the ride even better!

From ride adjustments to wishful thinking, these 5 rules could take living with the land from epic to beyond legendary.

Rule #1: The ride must include more comfort and better accessability

While we don’t have many complaints about Living with the Land, we do acknowledge that it could be comfier.

A wider queue to accommodate wheelchairs was a direct recommendation from our staff, as was some cushioning on the seats. If your behind hasn’t fallen asleep on this ride, consider yourself lucky.

Rule #2: Disney World has to release more Living with the Land merch

While Living with the Land merch certainly exists, we feel the attraction doesn’t quite get the love it deserves compared to some of the bigger attractions at the park.

We’d love to see even more Living with the Land souvenirs! Hey Disney, how about the ride’s soundtrack on vinyl?! At least here at AllEars, you’d have some very interested buyers…

Rule #3: Free samples

There’s no way to sugarcoat it: Living with the Land is kind of a tease. It shows off so many of our favorite foods — all fresh and all included at various restaurants throughout the resort. And then it lets you off and says, “Thanks for coming.” You don’t even get a nibble.

Free samples would add another dimension to this ride, and create some tangibility that would have us coming back for more. This attraction serves as a means of education that values healthy living all while placing an emphasis on conservation. Utilizing more of the senses would be a massive win for this very important ride.

Rule #4: Provide more sound options

In the past, Living with the Land used to have live narration from a Cast Member. Today, the narration is automated. We’d love to see the live narration come back, and some of us would even be willing to pay a nominal upcharge.

Then again, some others would prefer a quiet boat with no talking, no flash pictures, and no distractions. Having a variety of “sailing” options would be wonderful — even if that future is not entirely likely.

Rule #5: Make Living with the Land a national landmark

Yeah, we’re saying it: Living with the Land is too amazing not to be a national landmark — on par with the Lincoln Memorial and the Grand Canyon (okay, maybe we’re exaggerating a little).

Living with the Land

We just want to ensure that there is NO CHANCE Disney ever removes this beloved attraction. This is one of our favorite rides, and it brings so much to the table as a non-IP attraction that is also super educational. We’re not opposed to seasonal overlays like the winter Glimmering Greenhouses (maybe even one with The Muppets), but Living with the Land should be protected at all costs.

We’ve loved Living with the Land for decades now, and we’ll continue to share our love of the attraction with you. We know many of you feel the same way, too!
