For many theme park aficionados, golf likely isn’t the first thing they think of when they hear the words Walt Disney World. However, the game — and multiple golf courses — have been a major part of the resort from the very beginning.

Now, one of the property’s premier courses is set to close for a several-month-long refurbishment.
Located near the Saratoga Springs Resort, the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course first opened in 1972. Designed by Joe Lee, the course was the third to open on Walt Disney World property, and was one of the first major additions to the complex.

The course is set to close this spring for a major refurbishment that will see the greens fully renovated with newly reimagined contouring and elevations, updates to the green-side bunker and chipping area to improve playability, upgraded irrigation and drainage systems to reduce water retention and improve playing conditions after rain, and enhancements to the teeing grounds. The course, which is offering its final tee times on May 3rd, is scheduled to reopen sometime in the fall.

While the Lake Buena Vista course is closed, guests will have options in the form of Walt Disney World’s other courses, all of which are located near Shades of Green (AKA the former Golf Resort) near the Magic Kingdom.
- Oak Trail Golf Course: A 9-hole, par-36 walking course with rolling greens and exciting challenges. Test your skills with holes ranging from 132 to 517 yards from the white tees; holes 5, 6, and 7 are routed around a deep canal and a picturesque pond. And with junior tees for younger golfers, it’s fun for the whole family!
- Palm Golf Course: An 18-hole championship course with shimmering lakes, tropical sands, palm trees, and sloping greens. The course includes 9 holes with water hazards and 59 bunkers, providing plenty of challenges for novices and seasoned pros alike!
- Magnolia Golf Course: A championship course that’s the longest golf course at Walt Disney World. This course is a challenge; 11 of the 18 holes boast water hazards, and dozens of sand bunkers dot the landscape! And to keep the Disney magic up, each hole has a Disney-themed name borrowed from a classic Disney film.

Walt Disney World’s Lake Buena Vista Gold Course is set to close in the coming days for a summer-long refurbishment. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Disney’s maintenance schedule.
