The Disney World Skyliner Just Did Me SO Dirty…

The Skyliner is my favorite way to move around Disney World property, but I have to admit, there are some truly terrible situations that can happen on board that I never want to run into.

I love the Skyliner!

Some of them are rare, and some of them are only dependant on what you’re wearing (you’ll get it in a second, just trust me), but no matter what, we’re all risking each and every one the moment we step on board. I’ve had ONE experience I don’t care to revisit, and some of my coworkers have some horror stories that have me never forgetting what might come someday.

Bad Weather

The Skyliner will stop running in unsafe weather, but you’d be surprised what a little bit of wind on the ground can feel like hundreds of feet up. Spoiler: It’s intense. I don’t struggle with motion sickness basically at all, but the one time I got in the Skyliner when a storm was coming in had me feeling pretty woozy.

Skyliner

I got off the Skyliner and made a vow to always check the weather before I board it again, and I’ve stuck by it! I can only imagine what someone who DOES struggle with motion sickness would have felt like — it was ROUGH.

Wind + Loose Clothes = ABSOLUTELY NOT

This story comes from not one, but TWO of my coworkers, who have had the unfortunate incident of being on the Skyliner in a dress or skirt and the wind created by the car moving through the air (even if it’s not windy outside, there IS still air moving in the cabin) causing an…unfortunate incident.

Inside the Skyliner

You see exactly where this is going. Remember those biker shorts we talk about all the time? They’re not just for comfort underneath your outfit to keep from chafing — they’re also to avoid any potential embarrassment if your skirt is to fly up due to the wind at any time. This hasn’t happened to me in Disney World before, but it DID happen to me on a cruise one time and the memory is seared into my memory (it was 11 years ago and I’ll never forget the feeling — AVOID IT!).

Drinking Around The World Gone Wrong

This next story has me shuddering just thinking about it, and I’ll preface it with this: if you’re emetophobic like I am and get sensitive reading about affected situations, you may not want to read on. If you have no idea what emetophobia is and you don’t have a weak stomach, then you’re probably fine to proceed.

Skyliner in EPCOT

Whether it was due to Drinking Around The World gone wrong, morning sickness, or another reason, one of my coworkers was in a Skyliner car with another group, and let’s just say one of the group members had an unfortunate incident that resulted in everyone else in the car having to sit with the smell for the entire duration of the ride. Personally, I can’t even imagine. That’s like, all of my worst fears coming true at once.

Caribbean Beach

I’m not saying to NOT take the Skyliner, because, let’s be real, I still take it most times, but will I take it more often when the sky is clear and there’s more of a chance I’ll get a car to myself? 100% absolutely. Be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news and stories!
