Disney World isn’t the only theme park going through a transformation.

Universal Orlando is working on adding a third gate to its lineup — and we’ve been keeping track of the progress on Epic Universe. The new park will be home to Illumination, DreamWorks content, and Super Nintendo World. We know we’re excited about the new theme park, but we wanted to know if anyone else was too — and here’s what we found out.
Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe is the newest theme park coming to Central Florida, and we can’t wait to check it out! It’ll be located about 2 miles southeast of the current Universal Orlando parks, and will have its own shopping district and new hotels.

So far, we know that there will be lands based on “some of the Illumination and DreamWorks content but especially Nintendo.” It will also be home to the popular Super Nintendo World — and will open in summer 2025. We headed over to our Facebook page to find out if our readers would be making the visit when it opens, and here’s what they said!
Yes
New theme park? SIGN US UP. Or at least, that’s what quite a few of our readers had to say about it! Seems like it doesn’t matter whether it’s Disney World or Universal, many fans replied that they’re excited to have something new to check out.

Not only that, but several readers replied that they might even make a special trip to check it out instead of just tacking a visit onto the end of their Disney World vacation. One replied that after their last visit to Universal Orlando, they were already planning on making their next big theme park trip a visit to Epic Universe when it opens.

Most responses we got mentioned being excited about Super Nintendo World and the potential for a Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion, and a few joked that it would probably still open before TRON in Disney World (harsh, but fair!). While some said they’d hit the park as soon as it opens, others mentioned waiting for all the kinks to be worked out before planning a trip.
No
But, other readers just didn’t see the draw — or at least not for a trip all by itself. Die-hard Disney World fans said that if they were going to be making the trip all the way to Florida, it would be to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth. Some readers shared that they weren’t sure the park would be very kid-friendly, and for that they weren’t planning a visit.

For many readers, their last trip to Universal wasn’t as thrilling or exciting as they had hoped, and so hurrying to the new Epic Universe theme park wasn’t exactly at the top of the to-do list. Additionally, cost could be a factor for many as Universal hasn’t made any announcements about what park admission will be or if the new gate will cause ticket prices to go up.

Epic Universe doesn’t have an official opening date, and several responses mentioned wanting to wait until a more concrete timeline had been announced before deciding if they wanted to make the trek. Other than Super Nintendo World and some additional Illumination and DreamWorks content, not much has been shared about the future lands and many are waiting to hear more.
Maybe
Others are just not so sure. Some readers joked that they didn’t even know Universal was building another park, while one lamented they’ll only go once the kids find out and start bugging her for a trip.

Apparently Super Nintendo World isn’t enough of a draw on its own for some, as multiple readers indicated they wanted to wait until closer to Epic Universe’s opening date for more information about what sort of lands, attractions, restaurants, and hotel options will be featured in the new park.

Plus, chances are that even once it opens, Epic Universe will probably have a few bumps in the road to navigate before everything starts running smoothly. We know how common it can be for new rides to malfunction or temporarily close from a mishap here and there, and it looks like several of our readers do too. Because of that, many of the “maybe” responses we received mentioned waiting for a bit and not booking a trip right away.

No matter whether you plan on visiting Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe when it opens, you can be sure we’ll keep you updated on all the latest progress.
