3 NEW Permits Filed for Frontierland at Magic Kingdom

Things are getting BUSY in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland. Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island closed last year to make way for an all-new Cars expansion called Piston Peak, which will bring two new rides to the park.

We’ve seen a LOT of work happening in that area behind construction walls, but it seems like even more work in Frontierland is on the way. Disney just filed three NEW permits for work at three specific Frontierland locations.

The permits were filed for Westward Ho, one of the snack kiosks in Frontierland. However, Big Al’s shopping kiosk and the Frontierland Churro Cart also have permits filed for their locations.

What’s interesting about these permits is that all three are for providing labor, material, and/or electrical services for construction. The company doing the work is Buena Vista Construction Company, which is Disney’s in-house construction department. Now, that doesn’t tell us a lot about what might be happening to these three locations soon, but we have noticed that these locations don’t appear to be in the concept art for Piston Peak.

These permits could mean that these locations are about to be demolished to make way for more Piston Peak features. However, Disney has not announced plans to close these three locations, so until we have more information, we’re just not sure, but SOMETHING will be happening to them.

Piston Peak is inspired by national parks, specifically Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The name comes from the 2014 film Planes: Fire & Rescue (which is part of the Cars franchise). It will even feature a geyser similar to Old Faithful. It will have two attractions: a rally race ride and a family-friendly Cars ride for “smaller racers.”
