It’s official. The Rivers of America is permanently closed in Magic Kingdom, and Disney wasted no time changing the park map.

We had the opportunity to take one last ride on the Liberty Belle before the Rivers of America closed for good last night, and now the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat have all been removed from the in-park map and the My Disney Experience app map.
Last night, Disney fans showed up, and we had a great time reminiscing about memories from the Rivers of America and saying our last goodbyes. We even spotted a beautiful rainbow over the Liberty Square Riverboat for the occasion.
This morning, we are in Magic Kingdom to check the status of construction walls, and we noticed that the park map has already been updated to reflect this closure. The area between Frontierland and Liberty Square is looking very empty right now.

The change has also appeared in the My Disney Experience app. Here is a quick look at the map before:

And here is the map now:

We knew this was coming, but it always makes us a bit sad to see things being removed from the map. Especially such iconic attractions as Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. They will definitely be missed, but the closures are making way for something new in Magic Kingdom!

This area of Magic Kingdom is being closed to make way for the new Cars area, Piston Peak National Park. The area will be based loosely on Rocky Mountain National Park and will feature two brand-new attractions. There will be a rally race ride and a family-friendly ride. Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for this new area, but we are expecting construction to begin on the area soon.

While we are excited for new areas to explore in Magic Kingdom, it is always bittersweet to say goodbye. If you didn’t get a chance to take one last ride on the Liberty Belle, join Breedlove as he embarks on the final voyage:
