See What the Magic Kingdom Park Expansion Looks Like NOW

Magic Kingdom has some awesome new expansions planned — the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are being renovated into a Cars-themed Piston Peak, and the area behind will transform into a new Villains’ land!

Construction is already underway for these two exciting new lands. They’ve made a lot of progress this week, so let’s take a look!

These new construction updates show a lot, even if they look like a bunch of dirt. As a refresher, this is what the area looked like before the Rivers of America closed:

Now here’s what the river and island looked like on Valentine’s Day — look at that difference! The river is completely gone, and the island that was once elevated is now all flat and level with the ground.

But when we zoom out, there’s an exciting picture. The new construction branches from Haunted Mansion all the way to the backstage area behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! Each new area is about double the size of Frontierland now.

Disney has already announced its plans for Cars Land — you’ll enter Piston Peak and zoom around with Lightning McQueen and Mater with two new rides.

We don’t have too many specifics on the new Villains land yet. We’re already so excited for it based on the concept art, but looking at the construction updates, this area is going to be massive!

Piston Peak doesn’t look like it’ll stretch too far beyond Big Thunder Mountain, which means that Villains Land will be the bulk of this expansion!
