Why We’re Worried About The Muppets Taking Over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney World

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is about to change dramatically, and a whole new band of misfits is getting ready to take over the roller coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

That’s right, Aerosmith is leaving Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the Muppets are moving in after leaving Muppet*Vision 3D, which will be demolished to become part of a new Monsters, Inc. land. Now, bringing the Muppets into a ride that was once at least kind of serious comes with some concerns, and we’re about to address those.

Here are our (not so serious) concerns about the Muppets coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Animal will destroy the vehicles

Animal is an unpredictable…well…animal. You just don’t know what he’s going to do next. Anything can set him off, and when it does, he acts in unpredictable ways. So if Animal has a meltdown during your ride of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, he could go on a vehicle-destroying spree.

Honestly, though, we will be curious to see how the ride vehicles change for the ride, if at all. We hope they get an Electric Mayhem van kind of coat of paint, though.

Rizzo is let loose in the roller coaster’s wiring

Rizzo is also an agent of chaos, although not quite in the same way as Animal. Remember how he tried to convince us he was Mickey Mouse during the Muppet*Vision 3D pre-show because we’re tourists and wouldn’t know better? Well, if he’s let loose in the roller coaster’s wiring, all sorts of things could go wrong.

To be honest, though, we wouldn’t mind Rizzo doing his Mickey Mouse impression over at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Too many Fozzie puns in the queue

Fozzie is an adorable bear, we’ll give him that, but his jokes aren’t that funny. He does love a good pun, though, and we fear the entire queue of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be just listening to Fozzie’s unBEARable puns over and over and over.

This might be even more annoying if he gets a punchline drumroll after each joke. Imagine listening to that for hours on end…

Waldo

We don’t mean to throw shade at Muppet*Vision 3D now that it’s closed, but we all sort of agree that Waldo is just the most annoying character ever, right? What if Waldo takes over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets? Trust us, we’ll be the first to scream “Not again!” if that happens.

Waldo needs to just stay with whatever comes of the Muppet*Vision 3D film and never leave.

Statler and Waldorf in the back seat

If Disney wants to take the concept of “back seat driver” literally, they might put Statler and Waldorf in the back of each ride vehicle where they will mock us throughout the duration of the ride. Okay, we’ll admit that this might actually be cool, if done correctly.

We do hope that the two hecklers make their way to the new ride in some way, even if it’s in speaks in each ride seat where they make random comments during the journey.

The entire soundtrack is “Mahna Mahna”

Disney could one-up “it’s a small world” by making the new soundtrack for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster just “Mahna Mahna” over and over. You’ll be forced to sing “Do do do do do…” over and over, too.

We are concerned about the soundtrack, though. The Muppets already have a band, Electric Mayhem, so will the soundtrack be them covering other songs, or will we hear other singers and bands during the ride, as Disney has previously suggested? The soundtrack could make or break the ride.

Gonzo catapults chickens at you

Gonzo loves to do stunts with his chickens. He’s put them in cannons and catapults, and what if you have to duck chickens during the ride because he’s just launching them at you?

Sure, it could be funny, but it could be dangerous for you and the chickens. Of course, he might just put himself in a cannon and get launched at riders.

Dr. Bunsen and Beaker blow up the track

When Dr. Bunsen does his experiments, something almost inevitably goes wrong (usually because of Beaker), so we can imagine one of his experiments literally blowing up the ride and its track.

This would result in us seeing Beaker flying through the air, his face covered with soot. Okay, so could be a fun “twist” to make the ride more interesting.

It’s a “glorious three hour finale” line for a ride that’s only “A minute and a half.”

Okay, a real concern of ours is what the wait times are going to be like for the ride, especially after it opens. New rides always have long wait times and what if you’re waiting in a three-hour line for a ride that’s so short you barely have time to enjoy it?

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster lines when reopening after a refurbishment

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s current ride time is 90 minutes (aka a minute and a half), and it goes by so quickly because the ride is fast. That means our biggest concern is Disney making the queue and pre-show interesting enough to keep us entertained until we get to the ride.

Disney has confirmed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will remain open as is during 2025 and that the Muppets version of the ride will open in 2026. That’s not a lot of time to update the ride, and we are worried that it’s just going to feel more like an overlay than anything. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Once it does reopen, though, we’re very curious about how the Muppets will fit into this ride and what kind of humor it will gain (because the Muppets are all about being funny). However, our hope is that it’s going to feel like a completely new attraction when the Muppets move in.
