Nobody Mentions These Brutal Truths About Your Last Day in Disney World

Leaving Disney World is always a bummer, but the final day of your trip can be even worse if you let these truths catch you off guard.

For many guests, a Disney World vacation is an intricately planned trip, with each day accounted for, including the last one. However, whether you’re intending to head out early in the morning or planning to squeeze in some final park time, these pitfalls may torpedo your final day if you’re not careful!

Morning Breakfast

If you’re planning on having breakfast at your Disney World hotel before heading to Orlando International Airport to catch an early flight, be sure to check the hours of the restaurant or food court where you’re planning to eat to make sure that they’ll be open early enough to have breakfast and still get to MCO on time. This is especially relevant if you’re planning on using Disney Dining credits for said breakfast, as you don’t want them to go to waste.

Strict Checkout

Speaking of leaving in the morning, keep in mind that Disney has a STRICT checkout time of 11:00 AM. So, whether you’re planning on grabbing breakfast or simply packing up, keep an eye on the clock as housekeeping will arrive promptly once checkout time hits.

Relatedly, some guests have run into an issue where they’ve been automatically checked out of their room BEFORE 11:00 AM if their phone’s GPS registered them far from their hotel room, such as having breakfast at another hotel or making a quick rope drop trip to one of the theme parks.

Souvenir Overload

If you are making time to head to one of Disney World’s parks or Disney Springs to do some last-minute souvenir shopping, be sure to keep in mind that your airline will have some specific baggage rules, and you don’t want to get stuck paying extra fees or consolidating luggage on the airport floor last minute.

However, do bear in mind that Disney World hotels with convention centers have on-site shipping centers where you can pack and ship boxes, and many of the resort stores can also ship souvenirs to your home. They can usually consolidate souvenirs you have bought throughout your trip into one box to save on shipping.

Don’t Count on That “Perfect” Final Ride

If you do visit one of Disney World’s theme parks on your final day, be forewarned that you can’t plan a “specific” ride to end your trip with. Sure, you can try to end on the “high note” of your favorite attraction, but anything from time constraints (more on that below), weather-related issues, queue times, Lightning Lane Availability, or unscheduled downtime can mess that plan up. Don’t let that ruin your overall experience.

Timing

Finally, the most brutal truth: Timing is Everything. Due to how busy MCO is, you really should arrive between 2 and 3 hours before your flight to ensure you make it through security and to your gate on time. On top of that, it takes about an hour to get to MCO from Disney World property, meaning that you need to be back at your hotel and ready to head to the airport 4-5 hours before your flight.

MCO lines

Take it from someone who had to race through MCO and just barely made their flight because they just HAD to squeeze in a final Flight of Passage ride before heading home, it’s not worth it.
