I Feel So, So Bad for People Who Made These Mistakes in Disney World

Disney World is magical, yes, but it can also be confusing, exhausting, and just plain chaotic if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Even the most well-meaning guests can make mistakes that totally derail their day, and when we see it, well, it genuinely hurts our hearts. Here are a few of the most common mistakes we see in the parks — and why we’re begging you not to let these happen to you.

Wasting Rope Drop on the Wrong Ride

We know, it’s early. You’re proud of yourself for even being in the park at rope drop, and honestly? You should be. That’s a huge win!

Rope Drop crowds

But then… we see you make a beeline for Magic Carpets of Aladdin or Journey Into Imagination. That early window is golden. It’s your one shot to hit the rides that are normally packed with long lines — think Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Flight of Passage, or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Not the rides that usually have a 10-minute wait all afternoon.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

If you’ve put in the effort to get there early, don’t waste it. Hit something high-demand, and thank yourself later when you’re not sweating in a 75-minute standby queue at 2PM.

Skipping PhotoPass Cast Members Because You Think It Costs Extra

Okay, here’s a secret we wish more people knew: Disney PhotoPass photographers will absolutely take photos on your personal phone or camera — for free.

Thanks, PhotoPass!

We cannot tell you how many times we’ve seen families awkwardly trying to prop their phone up on a trash can for a group shot, or asking a stranger to snap a pic in front of the castle. Meanwhile, a perfectly trained PhotoPass CM is standing five feet away, ready and waiting.

Sure, if you want to buy the professional photos they take, that’ll cost you. But just asking them to take one on your phone? Totally fine. Totally normal. And it’ll look so much better than the blurry selfie your cousin snapped with one hand while holding a churro in the other.

Wearing JEANS in Disney World

We have seen people show up in skinny jeans. Black denim. High-rise mom jeans. And we love a good outfit moment, but let us tell you — those jeans will betray you by 10AM.

Magic Kingdom

Florida is hot. Florida is humid. Walking miles in denim when the humidity is at 80% is not the fashion win you think it is. You’ll be chafing. You’ll be sweaty. You’ll be mad at yourself by lunch.

Magic Kingdom

Opt for breathable fabrics. Athletic shorts. Flowy dresses. Bike shorts. Anything that says, “I want to enjoy my day and not feel like I’m wrapped in a wet towel.” Do it for your sanity. Do it for your thighs.

Buying Tickets for the Wrong Park

You would think this would be rare. You would be wrong. More than once, we’ve overheard a panicked family at Guest Relations slowly realizing they’ve bought tickets to Disneyland — in California — when they meant to go to Disney World — in Florida. And it’s just… heartbreaking.

Disneyland

There are tears. There’s confusion. There’s a cast member trying their best to make magic out of a very awkward situation. It is fixable, but it’s not fun. And it can throw a major wrench into your plans, especially if you’re trying to rope drop and fix a ticketing issue first thing in the morning.

Sleeping Beauty Castle

So if you’re booking through the Disney website or app, triple check you’re buying tickets for Walt Disney World Resort (Orlando, FL) — not Disneyland Resort (Anaheim, CA). They are very different places. With very different vibes.

Universal Orlando

Even worse is that some people think “Disney” and “Universal” are interchangeable. We had an Uber driver the other day who told us he made this mistake on his own vacation. He showed up at the Disney World entrance with Universal tickets in hand, wondering why nothing was scanning.

Universal Orlando

We know mistakes happen — Disney is big, overwhelming, and full of moving parts. But if you can avoid just these few things, we promise your day will be smoother, more comfortable, and way more magical.
