Universal’s Epic Universe officially opens May 22nd, and while we’re hyped for the immersive lands, jaw-dropping coasters, and next-level tech, there are a few rules you’ll want to clock before you step foot in the park.

Some of them are no-brainers, but others? Well, let’s just say they might surprise you (we’re looking at you, monster makeup ban on booze). Whether you’re a theme park pro or a first-time visitor, here are the new rules you must follow at Epic Universe — or risk getting booted before your day even begins.
No Drinking in Monster Makeup
We’ve seen a lot of strange theme park rules in our time, but this one takes the graveyard cake.

One of the coolest (and creepiest) offerings at Epic Universe is the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience in the Universal Monsters-themed Dark Universe. It’s like the spooky cousin of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique — instead of turning into royalty, you’re transformed into Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, or another classic horror icon. The makeup is intense, the vibe is killer… but there’s one big catch: you can’t drink alcohol while in monster makeup.

No sipping cocktails, no beer with your burger — not even a celebratory butterbeer (well, if they had one). The official word is that it’s due to ID verification issues (because, let’s be real, Dracula’s not on your driver’s license). So if you’re planning to get glammed up as a werewolf and then unwind with a margarita… you might need to pick one or the other.
Say Hello to Facial Recognition Lockers
Gone are the days of fumbling with locker keys or trying to remember a pin number when you’re hyped up post-coaster. At Epic Universe, the Stardust Racers lockers use facial recognition tech.

Yup, you can now use your face to access your locker. Here’s how it works: press a button, let the camera scan your face, and boom — the system assigns you a locker. After the ride, you’ll go to the back side of the locker bank, get scanned again, and if everything matches, the door opens. Super sci-fi. If you’re not into using your face, you can still scan your ticket instead. But don’t be surprised when a camera pops up instead of a keypad.

Love it or hate it, this seems like the direction Universal is heading in to keep things moving faster and smoother.
No Line Holding, No Line Jumping, Period
Let’s all take a deep breath and say it together: No. More. Line. Drama.

Universal is laying it down hard at Epic Universe — no saving spots, no cutting, and definitely no sneaky meetups halfway through the queue. According to posted guidelines, line jumping and place holding can lead to serious consequences — like being asked to leave the park.

So if you’re traveling in a group, make sure everyone’s ready to commit to the wait before you hop in line. That means no sending one person ahead while the rest of the squad grabs churros. Everyone waits together, or not at all.
Shirts and Shoes: Not Optional
Yes, this one sounds obvious, but apparently it needs to be said — you must wear shirts and shoes at all times inside Epic Universe.

The rule isn’t just about looking presentable; it’s a safety and hygiene thing, too. Whether you’re running from dragons or exploring alien worlds, leave the beachwear for Volcano Bay. No shirt? No shoes? No access to that epic new ride.

So before you go full vacation mode and kick off your sandals, remember: this isn’t a pool party. Keep it covered, folks.
No Passing Out Flyers (Or Selling Stuff)
This one’s more for the would-be hustlers out there: you can’t solicit, advertise, or pass out flyers inside the park without permission.

That includes handing out business cards, promoting your TikTok, or trying to sell handmade horror merch on the sly. Universal wants to keep the experience focused on the attractions, not turn it into a pop-up marketplace. If you’re caught breaking this rule, you could be escorted out — no refund, no warning.

So keep the promo materials at home. Enjoy the park. Post your content later.
Rain or Shine, There Are No Refunds
Florida weather is… chaotic. One second it’s sunny, the next you’re caught in a sideways monsoon. Universal’s stance? Admission is non-refundable, no matter the weather.

That’s right — no rain checks, no exchanges, and no exceptions. If it pours, the rides may close temporarily, but your ticket is still used up. So if your Epic Universe day ends up being a washout, you’ll just have to roll with it.

We always recommend checking the weather forecast (as much as you can in Florida) and packing a poncho just in case. Some of the coolest stuff might still be open — and hey, crowds tend to clear out when the skies open up.

These rules may seem like small things, but they can seriously impact your day if you’re not prepared. Epic Universe is bringing the thrills, the tech, and the monsters — but also a fresh set of expectations for guests. Follow these guidelines, and you’ll spend your time riding coasters, exploring immersive worlds, and maybe even becoming a monster yourself… just without a drink in hand.

Which rule surprised you the most? Tell us in the comments!
The line jumping sounds good, but they will not enforce it. They don’t enforce it in their other parks even when it happens right in front of them.
