Hollywood Studios is about to look completely different.

This park has gotten many new additions in the past few years, including Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but that was just the beginning! Soon the park will be home to two new stage shows, a Muppets overlay on Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, and a brand-new land dedicated to Monsters, Inc. Disney has been sharing SO MANY details about this new land, and here is everything that we know!
Background
At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which was held in Anaheim last August, it was revealed that Monsters, Inc. would be joining the line-up at Hollywood Studios. Disney shared a few pieces of concept art, but they left us wondering where this new land would go. Many fans hoped that it would take over the space of the Animation Courtyard, specifically Star Wars Launch Bay. Well, we finally know where this new land is going to go, and the announcement left many fans heartbroken.

Location and Closures
It was revealed that the future Monsters, Inc. land would replace the fan-favorite Muppets Courtyard. The area will undergo a phased closure starting with Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano on May 11th, 2025. The Italian table service restaurant will be closing its doors with the last day to dine on May 10th, 2025.

The second phase of the closure will include both PizzeRizzo and Muppet*Vision 3D on June 7th. And by June 8th, we can expect construction walls to be up, blocking off the entirety of the courtyard. The closure starting this year does not come as a surprise, as Disney did reveal that construction on Monsters, Inc. Land would begin in 2025.

Fans of the Muppets may find some relief that, eventually, the Muppets will take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. However, no closing date for the current attraction starring Aerosmith has been announced.

Concept Art
Although we, along with many, will mourn the loss of Muppets Courtyard, the new Monsters, Inc. Land has so much potential, and the concept art makes us excited for the future!
The land’s story will start and pick up right after the events of the first film. Disney shared that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!

Disney released a few pieces of concept art during the land’s initial announcement. From the concept art it seems that we will be able to get some “eye-scream” and even dine at Harryhausen’s.
Another angle of the concept art shows that a playground inspired by the colors of Sulley may be part of this land.

The land is set to have a signature attraction that Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro seems to be very excited about as he shared, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.” This is massive news as a Monsters, Inc. door coaster has been highly rumored for a long time.

This attraction will be Disney’s very first suspended coaster! This is where you will sit in your seat, and your legs will dangle off the ground as the track is above you. It was shared that “You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs, and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!”
The attraction’s facade and queue will be in the very building where Monsters, Inc. is located! How cool?

When the announcement was made that Monsters, Inc. Land would be taking over Muppets Courtyard, Disney shared a new piece of concept art that better fits the layout of what it is replacing.

The iconic Miss Piggy statue and fountain will be replaced with an eyeball fountain. Harryhausen’s will likely overtake Mama Melrose’s current spot.

We noticed a billboard for the Laugh Floor, which is currently in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. Disney said that you would be able to visit the Laugh Factory, so is this a sign that the Laugh Floor could be moving into the current location of Muppet*Vision 3D?

We know that concept art can change throughout the creative process, as it already did when Disney released the latest concept art, so we will just have to wait and see for more details to be announced.
Opening Timeline
No opening timeline has been announced yet, as construction will just begin this summer. For reference, it took about two years to build Toy Story Land and about four years to build Galaxy’s Edge.

We will continue to monitor news regarding this brand-new land, so make sure to follow along with AllEars!
