CONFIRMED: 2 Popular Magic Kingdom Rides Are Closing This Month

Are you ready for all the changes coming to Disney World in 2025?

Magic Kingdom

Well, 2025 is right around the corner, and we’ll soon be seeing a phased closing of Dinoland, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to make way for the new Pueblo Esperanza. Muppets Courtyard will be closing in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to make way for Monsters, Inc. land. In Magic Kingdom, Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America will be closing to make way for a Cars expansion in Frontierland. However, in January, two popular rides are going to close in Magic Kingdom, too.

First up, over in Tomorrowland, Astro Orbiter will be closing on January 13th, 2025, for several months for refurbishment. There is no official reopening date, but the Disney World website has indicated that the closure will last until summer 2025. We’re not sure if this is just a long routine maintenance closure or if Disney has plans on making changes to the ride.

However, there’s an even lengthier ride closure that’s going to happen over in Frontierland. As if all the construction around the Cars land is not going to be enough, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is going to be closed for at least an entire year, starting on January 6th, 2025. Disney announced that the ride would be getting its routine maintenance, but that it’s also getting “a little bit of new magic.”

So if you’re visiting Disney World over the next few months, you’ll need to keep these closures in mind as you won’t be able to ride these two attractions. You’ll also want to keep in mind that construction will probably start soon on the Cars expansion, so you’ll also want to prepare for construction walls when they go up in Magic Kingdom.

We’ll keep an eye out for any other closures in Disney World, so stay tuned to AllEars for more.
