Disney World rides are going to go down, we expect it and aren’t surprised…most of the time.

However, some of these rides are pretty high-tech and have been built in recent years, while others have been around since the parks opened. We were looking at ride closure trends over the past month and have to ask: Is Disney EVER going to do anything about this annoying trend?
Magic Kingdom
Just this past month, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train closed 34 times over 21 days, which is pretty wild. Now, this ride’s been open for about 10 years now, but that’s nothing compared to the opening day attractions.

For comparison, Mad Tea Party was an opening day attraction and closed 32 times in 20 days. Now THOSE are closures we expect because while yes, it’s a simpler ride, it’s been open for 50 years!
EPCOT
Continuing with this same trend, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure has only been open for about 3.5 years, but the advanced tech in the ride means it’s prone to lots of closures. Example A: It closed 37 times in 23 days this month.

In comparison, the ride that closed the second most was The Seas with Nemo and Friends, which has been open since January 2007. This ride closed 35 times in 20 days, which is slightly concerning because it’s just an omnimover attraction with a ton of screens, but it’s older than many of the other rides!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
If we REALLY want to talk about ride closure issues, it’s over in this park. Both Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway are newer rides, both having opened in the past 4-5 years. However, both of these rides have issues constantly — Rise closed 42 times in 23 days and Mickey & Minnie’s closed 28 times in 19 days. As a runner-up, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy (opened in 2019) also closed 28 times in 18 days.

None of the rides in Hollywood Studios are actually opening day attractions, but it’s still interesting these rides closed more than some of the older attractions like Tower of Terror.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom gets a little break here, because to be honest, they haven’t had a new ride open since Pandora’s opening in 2017, and both of those rides do pretty well.

Expedition Everest closed the most often (which it’s been open since 2006, we’ll give it a break) with 28 closures in 16 days. Second was Kali River Rapids (opening in 1999) with 23 closures in 13 days. Clearly, Animal Kingdom’s doing pretty well, so if the other parks could just follow suit, that’d be great!

So what can we do about this? Unfortunately, the answer is nothing. There is nothing any of us, including Cast Members, can do if a ride goes down. Trust in the fact that Disney World is working to fix the ride ASAP, because they don’t want it to be down either! Never, EVER take out your frustration on a Cast Member — they’re just doing their job!

However, you can prepare for these closures ahead of time and have a plan B in place in case the ride you’re planning to head to goes down. If you didn’t have one, head to an air conditioned location to maybe grab a snack or drink, and talk it through with your group. There’s so much to experience in Disney World, there’s almost always some other attraction you can do instead!
