Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for rides to go down in Disney World.

While it can be frustrating, it’s to be expected — these are complicated pieces of technology that accommodate thousands of people a day. Usually, the rides are back up within a few hours for guests to enjoy. But what happens when a ride is down for the whole day, AND it’s a ride that doesn’t have a standby queue?
TRON Lightcycle / Run is Magic Kingdom‘s newest attraction, and you can only experience it by joining the virtual queue at 7AM or 1PM, or by purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane.

While we were walking around the parks on February 4th, we noticed some Cast Members at the front of the TRON queue. They were telling guests the ride was closed.

Cast Members were informing guests they weren’t sure why the ride was down (or perhaps they just weren’t able to share it publicly), and when we checked our My Disney Experience app later, it confirmed that the ride was still down.

So, what does this mean for guests who paid for an Individual Lightning Lane? Well, Cast Members will offer those guests a refund if the ride won’t be open all day, or you can keep your Individual Lightning Lane to use for later in the day if the ride comes back up.

As for virtual queue guests, this one is a little trickier. If the ride opens later in the day, anyone with a virtual queue boarding group will be automatically placed back in the queue. However, if the ride doesn’t open up all day, you might just be out of luck. You can try chatting with a Guest Experience Team Cast Member (the blue umbrella Cast Members), but there’s no guarantee they’ll be able to do anything for you.

Remember, while it’s very frustrating to you, don’t take it out on the Cast Members. It’s not their fault the ride is having issues, and nothing will be accomplished by being rude. Take a few breaths, step away if you need to, and then come back to figure out what is the best course of action.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this situation, so stay tuned to AllEars!
UPDATE: Later in the afternoon, TRON Lightcycle / Run reopened in Magic Kingdom. We’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if it remains open for the rest of the day.
