A lot of new rides have opened in Disney World recently.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind just opened in EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently saw the opening of the entirety of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge plus Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. One ride opening Disney has shared less about however, is the opening of TRON Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom. The ride was originally supposed to open for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, but was delayed. Today, we took a ride on the PeopleMover to bring you an updated look at what’s going on with the ride!
If you’re interested in taking a look at TRON construction progress, the PeopleMover is a great option because the track takes you right by the ride!

When we hopped on the PeopleMover today, we saw that the TRON ride was testing.

We previously shared that the coaster was in the early stages of testing, with the first full-speed test launch for the ride happening in May. If you want to check out the ride testing without hopping on the PeopleMover, you can also see it from the area of Fantasyland with the Barnstormer.

We also got the opportunity to check out the construction progress of the ride. The canopy looks like it may be finished, but there’s still a lot of construction happening on the ground.

It looks like there’s a lot of construction concentrated by the area where the Walt Disney World Railroad will pass through when it reopens. We can see that walls are being built, and there’s some digging happening over here, as well.

There are several concrete walls and structures that are sitting in the middle of the construction, so we’re interested to see those start to take shape.

We’ve already seen lots of exciting updates from the ride, like the canopy all lit up at night (which is beautiful, by the way), and we’ve also gotten some more details about the theming and storyline of the ride itself.

The story of the ride is this: you will enter the ride’s queue, become digitized, and enter the grid. Once in the grid, you’ll take part in a race against Team Orange as a member of Team Blue. The first team to race through eight energy gates is the winner.
Sounds fun, right? Disney hasn’t shared an exact opening date for this ride yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated! In the meantime, if you’re looking to get your thrill on while in Disney World, you have lots of options available to you. Right next door to the new TRON coaster is Space Mountain, and of course you can check out Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, but be aware that you will need to secure a boarding group or Individual Lightning Lane pass in order to ride.

Are you excited for the opening of TRON Lightcyle Run? Let us know in the comments!
Jeez. It took less time to construct all of Magic Kingdom than this one ride. It only took 11 months to open Disneyland.
You can’t blame it on the pandemic either. The park was only closed for four months, and money to construct it was already earmarked and included in their building budget. Construction had already begun when the pandemic hit.
How much longer do we have to wait?
What the heck is going on? That’s the real story. Report on that.
