PHOTOS & VIDEO: Here’s What the CROWDS Look Like for the Return of Fireworks in Disney World!

Fireworks officially return to TWO Disney World parks today!

We’re ready to cry again.

Over at Magic Kingdom, Happily Ever After will debut for the first time in over a year at 9:15PM, and, at EPCOT the temporary show, EPCOT Forever, will go off at 10PM. Park Passes for today are almost completely sold out in both locations, so we’re bringing you a look at what the crowds are like — let’s get to it!

Magic Kingdom

Today, park pass reservations are completely booked for Magic Kingdom, so we headed into a park day at full capacity! Happily Ever After is set to begin at 9:15PM every night (until October 1st, when Enchantment will take its place for the 50th-anniversary celebrations), so the crowds were pretty steady throughout most of the day.

But, around 7PM, we already started to see guests gathering in the hub area to claim their spot for the show!

People started claiming their spot, even in the rain!

And, by 1 hour to showtime, you could look out over the hub and see lots of umbrellas and rain gear!

The crowds even expanded down Main Street, U.S.A., though there was much more room to walk.

Later, with the clock ticking down to showtime, even more people gathered in the hub area!

By the time the pre-show announcement began, you could turn around find a sea of ponchos and umbrellas that stretched all the way down Main Street, U.S.A.

And, then it was showtime! Disney’s updated announcement streamed over the speaker and then the first firework lit up the sky after over 400 days without the show!

Happily Ever After is BACK!

After the fireworks finale, it was a slow walk to the front of the park as all of the crowds exited the park. Magic Kingdom doesn’t close until 11PM, but most guests seemed to be leaving.

EPCOT

Over at EPCOT, things were a little less crowded, as guests gathered around World Showcase Lagoon to wait for the return of EPCOT Forever at 10PM.

We found a spot at the front of World Showcase around 8PM and got to see some testing being done of the water displays on the Harmonious showpieces! The show is set to replace EPCOT Forever and debut in the park on October 1st, so it was a treat to see some of the effects just hours before fireworks begin.

And, when it came to the crowds, there definitely was a bit more room to spread out compared to Magic Kingdom (though it was equally as rainy).

EPCOT Crowds

The torches around the lake lit up about 30 minutes before showtime and, even with the excitement building, there were still wide gaps between groups. So, it was pretty easy to move around and find a spot to watch.

A little more room to breathe here!

With just 15 minutes left, we did notice that a few more people gathered in the area.

And, then the torches dimmed and we welcomed the familiar sound of EPCOT Forever!

EPCOT Forever is BACK!

It sure was GREAT to be back in the parks for fireworks and now guests will be able to enjoy each show every night at the parks. Of course, we’ll continue to bring you the latest on all the things returning to Disney World, so be sure to stay tuned for more!
