This morning Disney World‘s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was dedicated and is ready to open its doors tomorrow morning to guests.
Before the dedication, we were surprised to see Hondo Ohnaka arrive onstage!
Hondo introduced himself to us, and started to offer us the “Deal of a Lifetime” when Chewbacca, R2-D2, and BB-8 rolled onstage. Chewie was beginning to share news of a problem with the Millennium Falcon but was interrupted when two Stormtroopers showed up. The Stormtroopers were looking for a Wookie and a Resistance Spy. Thanks to Hondo’s quick talking he saved Chewie from capture, and the Resistance Spy they were looking for also slipped away.
As Hondo, Chewie, and the Droids left the stage Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, came onstage. He shared Disney has not only defined entertainment, but continuously redefined entertainment. Last year’s opening of Toy Story Land and tomorrow’s opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are examples of this.
Chapek went on to introduce the villagers, or cast members, of Batuu, and Hondo, Chewie, and the Droids returned to the stage. Chewie shot off an arrow that started the celebratory fireworks as Chapek declared the land open.
Note – the land is now officially dedicated, but it will not open to the public until tomorrow, Thursday, August 29!
