Tips for Disney Parks & Cruise Lines

I have enjoyed your "WDW at Large" pages. I was really sad to read that a lot of folks suffered through the La Nouba show because they really did not have to. We have been twice and each time when we booked we asked for the last row in the theater. There is an elevator to this level and there are regular chairs. Once they were with arms and I asked for one without arms and was given one without incident. I feel like these might be the best seats in the whole place as they allow you to see the whole theater. Wanted to pass along a tip for inexpensive souvenirs. When we go on vacation, I always like to buy a Christmas ornament for each of our kids. However, Christmas ornaments can get pricy at Disney ($12 and up), which adds up for three kids. One way I have found to keep costs down is by picking out keychains instead (around $5). When I get home, I just replace the chain with a ribbon and voila! Perfect for hanging on the tree. It is fun to "go down memory lane" when we decorate the tree.- Barb H.

One tip I don't recall seeing concerns the Florida wildlife. As people walk and jog the Disney trails around hotels and ponds they need to be smart about the wildlife. Alligators and snakes in Florida are a way of life. I'm sure that Disney, like most communities in Florida, does its very best to relocate the creatures that wander in, but these are not cute, furry bunnies and are not "fake." Each year tourists in our area are bitten by venomous snakes. Just be careful and mindful of where you are walking, jogging and playing. - Patricia Dahl

-- A power strip gives everyone easy access to plug in their electronic devices instead of searching for an unused one in the room.

-- Lastly, we always have a spot in the room (a table or the spot next to the door) where we put the things we take with us each day -- for example, sunglasses, backpack, water bottle, celebration pin, jacket. That way when you are ready to walk out the door, you can just grab your stuff instead of scrambling around the room trying to make sure you remembered those things. - Traci Regan

The jogging trail at Pop Century/Art of Animation is wonderful. It's very beautiful to run, approximately 1.4 miles around the lake for the entire run. Saw many bunnies (or it could have been Thumper!) on my early morning runs. Also, all around the lake there are trivia signs, and the trivia is different on each side, so changing the direction of your walk/run from clockwise to counterclockwise around the lake provides the opportunity to read the trivia on both sides. My husband and I go to Walt Disney World every year or so and have found a way to carry less to the parks, IF you are not going with children. We are seniors and don't want to carry a lot of packs, purses, etc. with us, so I bought a small cotton pouch (a little bigger than your keycard) with a neck strap. I carry my keycard, a few pills in tiny zipper top bags (the kind that extra shirt-buttons come in), ID, and that's about it! I find I really don't need more than that at the parks. It is also very lightweight, and I can tuck it down my shirt and out of the way. My husband carries the money, cards, etc. in his billfold. Works for us, and keeps our hands free! - Ruth

We recently participated in Mama Melrose's Fantasmic! Dinner package. I wanted to let everyone know that on the regular dining plan under the Fantasmic package, we were able to order an appetizer, entree and dessert per person. The appetizer was no additional money and was included for the Fantasmic package under the regular dining plan. This is an excellent way to capitalize on a one table-service credit meal. - Jessica Stahl

Recently stayed at Old Key West for Marathon Weekend. Upon check-in, my room was not ready. I do not have text messaging on my phone so was given a phone number to call later in the day. I found out at Bay Lake Tower that I could receive an email instead of a text. I called Old Key West and requested this. Since Walt Disney World now has wireless internet throughout, I enjoyed my day and received my room number via email through my Kindle. - M. Hoyt

Epcot - If going to Epcot with elementary school-aged kids, play Agent P! Even if you have never watched Phineas and Ferb, you should play the game. It made the World Showcase so much more interesting for my 8- and 10-year-olds. I enjoyed it also and my husband liked the fact that he could sit and have a beer at the Rose and Crown while we did our secret agent thing in the United Kingdom. - Margaret
