Tips for Disney Parks & Cruise Lines

Just learned that if you go to a park prior to checking in to your Disney resort they will reimburse you for parking! Did this myself this past weekend when we stayed at Art of Animation and worked perfectly! Couldn't quite get up early enough to do check-in before park opening and I didn't want to waste any of my theme park time! - Mary

On my last trip to Typhoon Lagoon, my sister lost one of her earrings during the big wave at the main pool. Given the size of the pool, we gave up on finding it fairly quickly. At the end of the day, we decided to try the lost and found at Guest Relations, on the off chance that someone had found the earring and turned it in. It hadn't been turned in, but the cast member advised us to wait about 15-20 minutes. It seems that they clean and check the pool filters at closing and whatever is found is then taken to Guest Relations. Sure enough, my sister's earring had been found in one of those filters and was promptly returned to us. While I would recommend not wearing anything you aren't prepared to lose in the first place, it's good to know that your item might turn up by the end of the day. - Johanna

On a recent trip to Disney my 5-year-old discovered several things she wanted to buy and, like most parents, we told her we would "think about it" as we moved on to the next part of our trip. Because I had my computer with me I was able to visit the Disney Store website the last night of our trip and order many of the things she had seen in the parks, as both Christmas and her birthday were coming up. I was thrilled to receive free shipping and knowing that I didn't have to try to "hide" these presents in our suitcases. But the icing on the cake was that several of the items were actually cheaper on the website than they would have been had we bought them at the park! - Kim Meyerholtz

However, we found a face painting area tucked away next to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland. And the best part -- just keep your receipt, and they'll touch up your face paint throughout the day for no extra charge! - Laura Gjere

On a recent trip to Walt Disney World I was stymied as to what to get our neighbors as a "thank you for house- and pet-sitting" gift. They don't have the same affinity for Disney products as we do, so finding a gift that didn't have a character printed on it was challenging -- until I went into The Pantry at Disney Springs. There I found a great collection of items at the Spice and Tea Exchange section of the store. They have a variety of "collection packs" of 3 types of "something" (like interesting sugars, or curries, or salts, or a Hot and Spicy) for a reduced price. I ended up buying the "Grilling Rub" pack for our neighbors, and a "Super Duper Catnip" package for our furry felines we vacationed without. - Michelle B.

I was trying to come up with ways to contain my earrings and small pins for my upcoming trip, and not finding anything that I felt quite suited. Then I realized that I had several types of weekly pill carriers of various sizes. Sure enough, there was one "jumbo" one that had seven sections. Not only could I fit many of my small/medium-sized earrings, but my Fairy Godmother pin fit easily. The top of each section snapped securely in place, and now my jewelry can be neatly stored and easily accessible. - Grandeb

On a recent visit to the Magic Kingdom, I stopped in the Main Street Bakery to check out the recent renovation and treat myself to a Starbucks coffee. When I reached the counter to pay, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to pay with my Starbucks gift card. Not only did I buy coffee with my gift card, but also a bottle of soda for my son. Don't leave home without your gift cards! - Kim Chesser

When we stayed at the French Quarter in December, we were delighted to find a refrigerator and put in some fresh fruit we purchased at the on-site store, as well as some water bottles. Unfortunately the guests who were there before us turned the temperature knob so cold that everything froze solid and was wasted. This is a reminder to check the temp setting before putting anything in the refrigerator. - Carol Berube

I have enjoyed your "WDW at Large" pages. I was really sad to read that a lot of folks suffered through the La Nouba show because they really did not have to. We have been twice and each time when we booked we asked for the last row in the theater. There is an elevator to this level and there are regular chairs. Once they were with arms and I asked for one without arms and was given one without incident. I feel like these might be the best seats in the whole place as they allow you to see the whole theater.
