Right now, the Magic Kingdom arguably feels more like a massive construction zone than it does a premier theme park, at least in the area surrounding the massive sites where Piston Peak and Villains Land will thrill guests in a few years.

However, just because these projects are still a while away doesn’t mean that nothing is going on at Disney World’s first theme park. In fact, there’s a ton going on at the “Most Magical Place on Earth” this summer!
Buzz Is BACK!
After a several-month-long refurbishment, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin returned in early April. The attraction’s refurbishment brought several new features to Space Ranger Spin, including new ride vehicles, complete with new, removable blasters! Said blasters can be aimed at newly refurbished “Z” targets throughout the ride.

Perhaps the most notable change is a new opening scene featuring the original robot character named Buddy, which ensures that “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers, and a chance to hone their blaster aim.”

The returning Buzz Lightyear attraction has slotted into the park’s Tier 2 Lightning Lane Multi Pass options, and is open during Early Entry.

The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness Roars” Again
Following a refurbishment that lasted well over a year, Big Thunder Mountain is BACK. Upon reopening, the legendary E-Ticket features updated tracks and trains that “preserve the attraction’s classic storytelling and trademark hootin’ an’ hollerin’ energy” while improving the ride experience. These changes – and a “comprehensive review from their safety teams” have even allowed Disney to lower the ride’s height requirement from 40 inches to 38 inches.

Big Thunder is going to be part of the park’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass Tier 1, and will NOT be offered as part of Entry Entry.

A Long-Abandoned Restaurant is Coming Back to Life in a Rootin’ Tootin’ Way
The Diamond Horseshoe — one of the Magic Kingdom’s oldest and longest neglected eateries — is getting new life with a Toy Story-themed Jessie’s Roundup show during the Cool Kids’ Summer promotion.
According to Disney, Jessie’s Roundup will be led by “everyone’s favorite yodelin’ cowgirl” Jessie, who will help guests “craft, dance and yodel their day away” with Woody and friends in a “high-spirited Western revue!” The most notable aspect of the show to longtime Disney fans, however, is where it’s being staged: The Diamond Horseshoe, a legendary — and for the last few decades legendarily underutilized — space at Disney World.

The show will make the first live entertainment in the Diamond Horseshoe in over two decades. From the Magic Kingdom’s opening in 1971 through 2004, the restaurant — which has alternated between table service and quick service throughout its history — has hosted several incarnations of the Diamond Horseshoe Revue… and Goofy’s Country Dancin’ Jamboree. One of those things is certainly not like the other.

Extended Evening Hours
The Magic Kingdom will be available as part of Extended Evening hours, where guests staying at Disney Deluxe Tier or Deluxe Villa resorts can access select theme parks for two extra hours after the park closes to the general public. Scheduled summer 2026 dates for the park confirmed so far include: May 6th, 20th, 27th, June 3rd, 10th, 17th.

Spooky Season Begins
While it may feel like summer hasn’t even started yet, we’re only a few months away from the launch of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!
The annual Halloween extravaganza kicks off on August 7th, and will also be offered on August 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 28th, 30th, September 1st, 4th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, 25th, 27th, 29th, and October 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th, and 31st. Tickets go on sale for Walt Disney hotel guests on May 5th, and for other guests on May 12th. Just be forewarned that they’ll cost a bit more than in past years.

BONUS: There May Even Be Some MAJOR Magic Kingdom News 3,000 Miles Away!
The 2026 edition of the D23 Ultimate Fan Event is set to take place in Anaheim from August 14th – 16th, and we’re thinking that the park’s panel could reveal some new information – including opening timelines and ride names – on the aforementioned Piston Peak and Villains Land…

… and maybe even some news on the announced yet-seemingly-stalled Carousel of Progress/Walt Disney animatronic enhancements.

While construction is still the headline story of the Magic Kingdom this summer, there are still some MAJOR things happening at Walt Disney World’s first theme park. Stay tuned to AllEars for further updates and ride news!
