It is hard to believe that 2025 is already here, which means you are even closer to your upcoming 2025 trip to Disney World.

Disney World is already starting to look different. There is so much set to open this year at Disney World and beyond, but you may want to be aware of how these new projects could affect your upcoming trip to the parks.
Last year, Disney announced that so many new and exciting things will be coming to the four theme parks in the coming years, but unfortunately, that means that you can expect construction across all the parks starting this year and into the next few years. Do not fret; your trip to Disney World can still be magical, but you will want to be aware of the changes that construction may bring.

Each of the four parks are set to have attractions and lands closed temporarily for refurbishment or permanently as new projects are on the horizon. It is always a good idea to keep this in mind so you can plan accordingly if a ride you want to go on is not available during your scheduled trip. These are the current scheduled closures for this year:

Magic Kingdom
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on January 6th, 2025, and will reopen in 2026.
- Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat will permanently close in early 2025 to accommodate the construction of two new Cars-themed attractions.
- Astro Orbiter will close on January 13th, 2025, and will reopen in the summer of 2025.
- Hall of Presidents will close on January 20th, 2025. No reopening date has been set at this time.

EPCOT
- Test Track has been closed since June 17th, 2024, and is set to reopen in the summer of 2025.
- The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros will close on January 6th, 2025, and is scheduled to reopen on March 15th, 2025.

Hollywood Studios
- Voyage of the Little Mermaid did not reopen after the pandemic, and it was announced that a new show, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, would take its place and open in the same theater in the summer of 2025.
- Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy closed on October 7th, 2024, to make way for a brand new show called Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, which will open in the summer of 2025.
- While no exact date has been announced, it was confirmed that construction would begin on the new Monsters, Inc. Land in 2025. The new land is set to take over the current location of Muppets Courtyard.

Animal Kingdom
- It’s Tough To Be a Bug! will close and be replaced with a new show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether! The new attraction is set to open in the winter of 2025. So far, a closing date for It’s Tough To Be a Bug! has not been announced.
- Kali River Rapids will close for its annual refurbishment on January 6th, 2025. No reopening date has been announced.
- DinoLand, U.S.A. will begin a phased closure starting January 13th, 2025. For the first phase, it was announced that the last day for TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures would be January 12th, 2025. This is being done to prepare for the new Tropical Americas-themed land, Pueblo Esperanza.

With these closures, it is important to keep in mind that parts of the park may become unavailable as construction progresses. This could mean detours due to construction walls, just like how we saw in EPCOT during the EPCOT Transformation.

Unfortunately, as rides and lands close, we expect crowd levels to be different as people will have fewer parts of the park to explore. This also has the potential to affect ride wait times. While it is not ideal, it is a good idea to pack your patience and set expectations. If you are interested in learning about Lighting Lane Multi, Single, and Premier Pass, which is Disney’s pay-to-skip-the-line service, we have plenty of resources to help you figure out what is best for you and your party.
While construction means fewer offerings across the parks, detours, and more crowds, it is not all bad, as there is so much to look forward to in 2025!
The Magic Kingdom will be home to a new nighttime parade called Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, which is set to open this summer. A new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge is also coming to the park this summer.

Although It’s Tough to be a Bug is set to close this year!, it won’t be long until a new attraction takes its place as Zootopia: Better Zoogether is expected to open this winter.

In EPCOT, Test Track 3.0 will open this summer, along with a brand new Spaceship Earth-themed lounge that is set to open in late spring.

As we mentioned above, Hollywood Studios will be home to two new stage shows, including Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure. Both shows are set to open this summer.

We know construction can be a bummer and can change the way that you may be used to visiting the parks, but at least there are so many new offerings coming this year to help offset the construction that will be in the parks over the next few years.
