UPDATE: As of April 5th, the TRON Identity Program is working and open to guests with a reservation.
If you’re hoping to get a new collectible in Disney World, you might encounter a strange situation.

TRON Lightcyle / Run is OPEN in Magic Kingdom so you can hop on that new ride now. And with the new ride has come some new merchandise. But one thing some folks might have particularly been looking forward to is the interactive TRON Identity Program — a special way to create a custom TRON-themed action figure that looks and speaks like you. The experience was supposed to open on April 4th, but things haven’t exactly gone to plan.
On April 4th, we visited the Tomorrowland Launch Depot, where some TRON merchandise was set to be available along with the TRON Identity Program experience. But we encountered a unique situation.

According to the Cast Member we spoke to, those who had TRON Identity Program reservations for its opening date — April 4th — had their reservations canceled. These people were then given a $90 gift card and a reservation for a VIP shopping experience at the Depot.
So, while you could find some TRON merchandise at the old home of Stitch’s Great Escape and another spot, access to Tomorrowland Launch Depot was limited to ONLY those who had a reservation for the TRON Identity Program that subsequently got canceled (no other guests could go inside this store).

One Cast Member indicated that the TRON Identity Program reportedly was still not working properly. They that they expect this general situation could be going on until at least the end of this week.
A Cast Member also mentioned that even if you make a reservation for the TRON Identity Program experience, there’s no guarantee the program will be working.

If your reservation does need to be canceled, be on the lookout for a call from Disney (some guests may receive that call tonight). Those who had reservations for the TRON Identity Program on April 4th got called about 2 days before their reservation date.
One Cast Member said that they did hope to have the program open by tomorrow (April 5th) but were reportedly hearing that there were some bigger problems than initially expected. That is just the word of one Cast Member though — things can change.

When we checked the website, it did show us various available times for the TRON Identity Program for April 5th, so perhaps Disney will be moving forward with it tomorrow. But it’s possible things won’t work out, so just be prepared.

Want to learn more about the TRON Identity Program? Here’s what you need to know. You’ll visit Tomorrowland Launch Depot for the experience and then go through the customization process. Using image capture, they’ll scan your facial features. Then you’ll select a helmet, body, and team colors. Next, you’ll visit “Command Input” where you’ll be able to record 6 lines of dialogue.
It’s expected to take around 20 minutes to make the selections and 60 minutes after that for your action figure to be finalized. The experience costs $89.99 per action figure (plus tax).

We’ll keep an eye out for updates and let you know if we see any changes in the coming days. But, in the meantime, be prepared to potentially face some complications with this experience.
