It’s been a difficult time for many of the wonderful Disney Cast Members who continue to make magic for guests every day in the parks.

As Disney has announced the layoffs of 28,000 Cast Members, we’ve made sure to provide you with important information and ways you can help during this time. And, more unions continue to release information about how they will be handling these unprecedented times moving forward.
The Service Trades Council Union (STCU) has detailed its Disney layoffs in a recent Facebook post. The union is made of 6 affiliate unions that represent 43,000 Cast Members. Although Disney originally stated that 5,299 full time and 8,857 part time employees would be laid off from the union, the STCU has negotiated that NO full time employees will let go during this time.

The STCU also provided the announcement that there will be no permanent layoffs of Cast Members. Unionized employees that are let go in the future will “retain their employment, their seniority, rate of pay including any scheduled increases, and the right to return back to previous job with the Company until October 1, 2022.”

STCU members will have prioritized opportunities to return to Disney when they are hiring new employees. In seniority order, full-time employees will be given the opportunity to return to their previous jobs “if the business need exists” or choose a different position “through a negotiated displacement transfer process.”

If a Cast Member chooses a new position or doesn’t have the seniority to return to work immediately, they will remain on furlough and still receive health insurance. The STCU has stated that “only those Full-Time employees who do not participate in the displacement transfer process will be converted to layoff status.” If employees have this layoff status, they will be placed on the same 60-day pay process that the union used when Disney previously announced the closures.
However, 8,800 part-time employees will be laid off at this time. They will also have the right to be recalled to their previous jobs through October 1st, 2022, like the full-time Cast Members.

As more unions release detailed information about Cast Member layoffs, we’ll keep you updated with all the news you need to know.
