Dollywood is a lot like Disney World when it comes to planning — you book a hotel, you make a tentative schedule, you plan out the restaurants you want to eat at, and you enjoy the day.

Like most guests, you’ll want to wake up bright and early to rope drop the park, so you can get the best rides in with a shorter wait than during peak hours. But a lot of people have been doing Dollywood rope drop WRONG, and we’re here to tell you what needs to change!
You really have two options when it comes to rope dropping — go left or go right. A lot of the time, people will go right because that’s the path that will take you towards Showstreet, The Dolly Parton Experience, Jukebox Junction, and Rivertown Junction.

But we’re here to tell you to go left — it’s the less traveled path and will take you toward most of the bigger thrill rides in the park! The only coaster it won’t take you to is Lightning Rod. This is the first coaster most people come across if you go right, so it’ll get a long line FAST!

Instead, guests who go left will come across Mystery Mine and Thunderhead in Timber Canyon, and Big Bear Mountain in Wildwood Grove. These attractions feature large drops and fast speeds, perfect for any guest seeking a thrill! And since Lightning Rod is the first coaster guests tend to see, these coasters tend to have shorter lines in the morning.

You should also consider heading straight to the back toward Wilderness Pass and Craftsman’s Valley. Guests will tend to stop in the first land they see, and since there isn’t an entrance in the back, there will most likely be fewer crowds early in the day! You can find rides like Wild Eagle and FireChaser Express in Wilderness Pass, and Tennessee Tornado and Blazing Fury in Craftsman’s Valley.

We’re always coming up with the latest tips and tricks, so you can have a smooth and worry-free vacation! So, be sure to follow us at AllEars for more!
