Attention Space Command cadets — you have a NEW mission waiting for you at Magic Kingdom.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially reopens at Disney World on April 8th, but we were lucky enough to check it out for ourselves as part of a preview. While much of the ride’s bones have remained the same, one major thing has changed — the scoring system. And with the new scoring system, we’re really hoping this free souvenir hasn’t gone away for good.
Previously, the highest score you could get on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was 999,999 points, which earned you the title of Galactic Hero. However, now you can go OVER that, which means you’re technically a Galactic Hero and THEN SOME.

When you were awarded Galactic Hero status, you could also ask Cast Members for a sticker when getting off the ride — essentially snagging yourself a free souvenir. Now, though, you need to hit 1,000,000 to become a Galactic Hero, but you can also score even MORE than that.

When we asked Cast Members about these stickers during our preview of the ride, we were told that they are still under discussion. Since there is no maximum score anymore, it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Cast Members will still be giving away stickers — or anything else — if you do reach Galactic Hero status.

The blasters on the ride are new, and they now detach from the holster, so you can hold them however you’d like — theoretically, this should make it easier to hit the targets and score Galactic Hero status.
There’s a trick to correctly holding the blaster so that your aim is steady and you can hit targets easily. You’ll want to hold it with one finger on the trigger, and then the other hand on the bottom of the blaster. This will give you the stability you need to better aim at targets, so you can actually hit them.

The key to scoring more points with the new blaster is to continuously hold down the trigger, rather than pressing it each time you try to hit a target. Just keep your finger pressed in on the trigger and aim at each target, and you’re sure to rack up a ton of points — hopefully reaching that Galactic Hero status.

We’ll be on the lookout for any potential updates to the Galactic Hero status for this ride and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more.
