Disney recently dropped some HUGE news about the future of the Muppets in the theme parks and we have thoughts!

Muppets Courtyard

We’ve been anxiously awaiting more information about Disney World’s upcoming Monsters, Inc. land project since it was announced at the D23 fan event back in August 2024. Based on the initial concept art, we had a bad feeling that the new land would replace the Muppets area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and close Muppet*Vision 3DAnd Disney’s latest update confirmed that the Muppets are indeed in for a shakeup at Hollywood Studios!

Okay, so let’s start with the bad news for our fellow Muppets fans: Disney confirmed the Monsters, Inc. land will be located at the south side of Hollywood Studios, where Muppets Courtyard currently sits. That means that this section of the park will be rethemed, and Muppet*Vision 3D will close to make way for Monsters, Inc.

MuppetVision 3D

The upcoming loss of Muppet*Vision 3D is a particularly painful blow for big Muppets fans, as the show was the final released film that was directed by Jim Henson and the last to feature his voice as Kermit the Frog.

Muppet Vision 3D

We’re super sad to see this iconic piece of Muppet history close to make way for Monstrolpolis. But there is one silver lining: Disney said that it would still have “creative conversations” about Muppet*Vision 3D and “exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” It sounds like we’ll be able to experience the show in some form in the future, but still, we definitely shed a tear or two when we heard the news!

Pre-Show Area

As major fans, we’re also bummed to see the theming of Muppets Courtyard go. I mean, how amazing is that Miss Piggy fountain?? We hope that Disney is able to save some of the scenery and relocate it to other areas of the park so these iconic characters get the representation they deserve!

Speaking of other areas of the park, the Muppets aren’t being completely shipped out of Hollywood Studios. Disney also announced that they’re “moving right along to Sunset Boulevard” including a Muppets takeover of  Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”

We’re glad that we’ll get to see them in Hollywood Studios still, but we are concerned that their major representation will be in the form of a thrill ride that lots of younger kids won’t get to experience. As Muppets historians, we want to make sure the love gets passed down to the next generation too!

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

This major shakeup has us feeling alllll of the emotions right now, so be sure to check in on any Muppet fans in your life because we are going through it! As happy as we are to see them stick around the park in some form, this is a change that might take some getting used to for hardcore Muppet fans.

  1. I’m really glad the Muppets will still have a presence in Hollywood Studios but, as someone who can’t tolerate any sort of roller coaster, I’ll have to miss out on both the new things: Muppet themed coaster and Monsters Inc one. It seems the trend is towards coasters and that really leaves out those of us who can’t manage them. We keep losing nice “quiet”/non-dropping attractions! Anyway I bet they will be fun for those who can ride them.
