For the most part, it seems like Disney World visitors are enjoying the spoils of the revamped “skip the line” system of Lightning Lanes Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass.

We’re able to make advance reservations for things like shows, attractions, and rides, significantly decreasing our wait times. But, there was one specific area that we’d noticed had been left out of this massive overhaul and it looks like Disney World is also curious of what people think of this quiet change, too!
If you’ve visited Disney World lately, things might have looked a bit different when you were lining up your experiences for the day ahead. While choosing Lightning Lanes through Lightning Lane Multi Pass, we’ve noticed a pretty big change to what’s offered.

It seems that when Disney’s new paid system was upgraded from Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, one category of attraction offerings was intentionally left out. Since the new program’s initial launch, character meet and greets have been left out of the attractions that can be booked as Lightning Lanes. And we were a bit conflicted about this approach.

On one hand we LOVED the convenience of being able to reserve a time to come back and venture through a significantly shorter line to meet with characters, but that didn’t ALWAYS promise a lower wait time. Each character does their best to spend time with each family or visitor and make the experience unique to their conversations. Sometimes, that doesn’t always translate to speedy. So when Disney made the decision to cut character meet and greets from the Lightning Lane offerings, we felt we could understand why.

If you see folks passing in the Lightning Lane currently it’s not because they have a special Lightning Lane they secretly found, it’s probably due to use for those who qualify for DAS. However, a recent survey from Disney World to visitors is looking for more feedback on this change.

Within days of visiting, you may receive a survey from Disney World for feedback about your experience in their parks. One that’s caught our attention happened to specifically ask questions around how you feel about meeting characters in EPCOT.

We thought this was quite interesting since for the most part the Lightning Lanes for these types of attractions are almost non-existent so it begs the question if Disney World may be considering working character meet and greets back into Lightning Lane selections in specific parks.

This could be an interesting option as we’ve seen a few character shake ups recently with the new Mickey & Friends meet and greet area open in the brand new CommuniCore Hall…

…and have spotted a few other friendly faces like Donald and Daisy meeting in Mickey and Minnie’s former spot during the Disney100 anniversary celebration.

It seems we’re still a ways off from getting an answer on if this will be a change or not in the future, but its certainly an interesting perspective should the feedback warrant a change!
