We May Have Found an Unfortunate Side Effect of Disney’s NEW Island Tower Hotel

Disney World’s newest hotel is officially open as of December 17th!

Island Tower

Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a new Disney Vacation Club resort, but anyone can stay here. Like Polynesian Village, it features beautiful details of the Polynesian and Hawaiian cultures. There’s a new bar and grill called Wailulu, a new pool and splash pad, and breathtaking views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom. It’s these views that have created our most recent “problem.”

We stayed overnight at Island Tower to check out every single detail. One of those details was all of the fireworks views you might have if you’re here during Magic Kingdom’s fireworks shows. There are several locations you can see the show from, including two of the terrace gardens, Wailulu, and the beaches. Of course, if you get a lagoon view from your room, you may have an excellent view from there as well. However, the terrace gardens and Wailulu all pump in the music from the show!

Views from a Terrace Garden

So here’s the new unfortunate side effect of this new hotel — you may be completely disappointed watching the fireworks from anywhere else ever again. Let us explain.

We checked out each of these viewing areas, and one of the best things we noticed was that only ONE spot had a crowd of people. That means that you can have great views of the fireworks and the music to go along with them, but none of the crowds you will have if you’re watching from in Magic Kingdom! Watching them with a massive crowd of people will never be the same again if you see them from Island Tower.

Fireworks from Island Tower

We first went to the Bamboo Terrace Garden on the 3rd floor to stake out our view. From here, you could see Cinderella Castle and the fireworks beautifully, and there were only like seven people there.

Then we went up to the 5th floor to the Wave Break Terrace Garden, where we certainly had a better view. We could see Cinderella Castle, Main Street, U.S.A, and, of course, the fireworks. However, there were more people here, around 30.

We also stopped by Wailulu, and there was NOBODY here! Of course, your view will be better from up higher at the terrace gardens, but with no one around and the music all around you, this is a pretty great spot to SIT and enjoy the show. Sitting is something you likely WON’T be able to do at Magic Kingdom for the show.

On the beach, the hammocks were filled, but there was a lot of area all around and on the walking path.

View at Wailulu

Unless this secret viewing location gets out, this new hotel makes it one of the best places to view the fireworks, especially since you can hear the music at several locations! It’s going to be a real pain to stand in a super crowded area in Magic Kingdom to watch the show again now that we’ve seen what it’s like at Island Tower.

Remember, while this is a DVC resort, you don’t have to be a DVC member to stay here! That means these views can be available to you. However, to access the terrace gardens, you do need to be staying at the hotel. If you want to wander over here to see the show, even if you’re not staying here, you may be able to catch the Monorail and see it from the beaches or Wailulu.
