If you’re staying at a Disney World resort and not taking advantage of Fort Wilderness activities…you’re doing it wrong.

You don’t have to be a camper or even staying at Fort Wilderness to take part in the seriously underrated (and incredibly fun) experiences offered there. This place is packed with things to do—from pony rides to archery lessons — and the vibes are the most laid-back you’ll find anywhere on property. But if I had to pick the single best $49 I’ve ever spent at a Disney World hotel? Easy. The Fort Wilderness Archery Experience.
Why Archery Is Totally Worth It
Let’s set the scene: you’re in the middle of a Florida pine forest, it’s quiet (yes, really), and a Cast Member is handing you a compound bow like you’re about to join the next Avengers team. You get a safety briefing and a quick lesson, but then it’s all about stepping up to that line and channeling your inner Hawkeye.

This 75-minute activity costs $49 per person and is open to anyone 7 and up. The class size is small — just ten guests — so the vibe is very personal, and the Cast Members are top-tier. You’re not just lobbing arrows hoping to hit something; they actually coach you with real tips to improve your aim. And when you do hit that bullseye? The absolute main character moment.

Even if you’ve never picked up a bow before, this experience is beginner-friendly but still feels like a challenge in the best way. And unlike some of the more chaotic Disney experiences, this one lets you slow down, focus, and do something completely different. No screens, no crowds, no queue lines — just you, the bow, and the target.
But Honestly, ALL the Fort Wilderness Activities Are Incredible
Even though archery wins for best bang-for-buck, the truth is that Fort Wilderness is full of low-key magic, and you can make a whole day out of it — no park ticket required.
Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long is a classic. You roast marshmallows, sing silly songs, and meet the chipmunks themselves. It’s goofy and charming and the kind of experience that reminds you why Disney is so good at what they do. If you’re traveling with kids, this is a can’t-miss. And even if you’re not, don’t knock it until you’re halfway through “Home on the Range” with a s’more in hand and zero regrets.

Then there’s Movies Under the Stars, which is exactly what it sounds like —free Disney movie screenings at the outdoor theater. They rotate the titles, and it’s super chill. Bring a blanket, snag a spot on the lawn, and enjoy the fact that you’re watching a movie under the Florida sky with pine trees swaying around you. It doesn’t get much better.

Tri-Circle-D Ranch is another hidden gem. If you’re into animals or just want a break from people, this place delivers. You can walk through the stable (which houses the actual horses from Main Street, U.S.A.), check out Walt’s Dragon Calliope, and even see the ponies up close. Want to ride? Pony rides are just $10 for little ones, and there are carriage and trail rides available too.

And for the adventurers: you’ve got canoe and kayak rentals for $15 an hour, bike rentals, and even the Wilderness Back Trail Adventure — a Segway tour that lets you zip around the forest paths in the coolest way possible. That one’s on the pricier side ($90+), but it’s a super unique way to explore the resort. Heads up: you’ll need to be 16 or older for that one.

Fishing fans, you’re covered too. You can do a guided bass fishing excursion or just grab gear from the Bike Barn and try your luck with dockside fishing.

It’s all catch-and-release, but the peace and quiet (and honestly, the bragging rights) are the real reward.
Here’s the Bottom Line
You don’t have to spend a ton of money — or even go into a theme park — to have an incredible day at Disney. Fort Wilderness has that old-school magic that doesn’t need fireworks or thrill rides to blow you away. And spending $49 on archery there? Genuinely one of the most fun, satisfying, and unexpected things I’ve ever done at Disney World.

So if you’re planning a trip and looking for something unique, skip the usual and give Fort Wilderness a try. It’s calm. It’s charming. And it’s got just enough wild.
