I Was Late to My Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Virtual Queue in Disney World — Here’s What Happened

We have been going down to the Bayou with Tiana and all her friends on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for a while now!

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

This attraction is Disney World’s newest ride and can be found in Frontierland in Magic Kingdom. It has been a trend that when Disney opens a new attraction, a Virtual Queue is used in place of a stand-by line, and this has been the case with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but what happens if you miss your window to ride?

In order to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as of now, you need to obtain a boarding pass via Virtual Queue or snag a Lightning Lane return time through Genie+, soon-to-be Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Let’s go over a quick lesson on Virtual Queue. Virtual Queue is Disney’s way of making sure that a line to a popular attraction does not get too crowded or backed up. Think of it as a return time; it is a way to reserve a spot in line while you get to enjoy other parts of the park until your return window for your boarding group is called.

You have two chances to obtain a Virtual Queue through the My Disney Experience app, once at 7AM and once again at 1PM. At 7AM, you do not need to be in the park to obtain a Virtual Queue. At 1PM, you must be in the park where the attraction you are trying to join the Virtual Queue for resides. So, if you are trying to join the Virtual Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at 1PM, you must be in the Magic Kingdom before then.

A Step-By-Step Guide to Using Virtual Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

If you are able to join the Virtual Queue, you will wait for your boarding group to be called. Once it is called, you will have an hour to return to the attraction.

We know that things do not always go according to plan, and sometimes, you can end up being late. So, what happens when you show up late for your return time at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? We are so glad you asked; we tried being late twice to test it out.

What You Need to Know about Using Virtual Queue in Disney World

We have good news! Both times we showed up late to our return time, we were let into the Virtual Queue line with no problem! When we tested this, we were about 30 minutes past our return time.

Now, we can’t always guarantee this, but it seems like Cast Members are being more lenient with return times at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This is not always the case with other attractions that use the Virtual Queue system.

Tron Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, and use the Virtual Queue system. In the past, we have run our being late to a Virtual Queue experiment on these attractions as well.

TRON

We have found that on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Cast Members are also relaxed. They will let you in far past your return time and often joke with you about how they have seen people even later than you.

Tron Lightcycle / Run, on the other hand, is different. We have found that they are more relaxed during the first two hours of park operation since return times can be called before the park is open to the general public. Sadly, there have been times when we have only been one minute late and have been turned away.

This could all depend on the day and how busy the park is. The good news is that you do get a 15-minute grace period!

The moral of the story is that for now, it seems to be okay to be late to your Tiana’s Bayou Adventure return window for Virtual Queue. When you are late, make sure to be kind to the Cast Members and let them know that you missed your return window. This has seemed to work in our case and should hopefully be the case for everyone as well! Remember, this is not always guaranteed.

  1. my fiancé and i joined the 1pm queue on opening day, it was raining for the majority of the afternoon and boarding groups were delayed, we had a dinner reservation for 8pm and got called right as we checked in. we ended up not getting to the entrance of TBA until 10:30pm and were able to scan in without asking any questions or talking to anybody.
