It’s hard to believe the day is almost here, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be opening soon in Disney World.
We’ve been following construction of the new ride since Disney closed Splash Mountain to turn it into the new ride, and we’ve been excited with all the details that Disney has dropped about the new attraction. There’s a new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure detail, though, that we just discovered that we think is absolutely stunning.
Disney recently posted a full point-of-view ride-through video of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which takes us through a story that takes place after the “last kiss” seen in The Princess and the Frog. Tiana is now a successful businesswoman and the owner of Tiana’s Foods, and she’s putting together a massive party for the people of New Orleans. But she’s missing one key ingredient: a band!

So Tiana is going to send us out into the bayou to go searching for a band. Of course, that’s quite an adventure, and we get sucked into some of Mama Odie’s magic, but ultimately, all is well, the band is secured, and the party is ON. So let’s look at that finale scene of the party.

There’s a detail in this scene that has us in AWE. It’s that gorgeous dress Tiana is wearing at the end. She’s in a full-length gown that’s got all kinds of beautiful beaded details, VERY worthy of a New Orleans party. Here’s a closer look, so you can see all those gorgeous details. We can imagine Disney’s costuming department went ALL-OUT on this dress, judging from the look of it.

Look at this gorgeous art deco design on the bodice and the openings on the sleeves. SO classy. You’ll notice that Tiana is also wearing her jeweled crown — she is a princess, after all.

The bottom of the dress has a gorgeous gilded art-deco-style fabric with ornate trim. The dress also has a long train (Tiana has the train attached to her hand so she can walk in the dress — y’all, this animatronic doesn’t even walk, but the costume designers thought of how to make this realistic).

The costumes for animatronics have to be designed in a way that they can easily move as the animatronic moves, as well as create the intended effect that Imagineers have in mind. With all that beading, we can also imagine this dress might be heavier than many other animatronic costumes, so we’re sure that was taken into account, too.
Of course, we love Tiana’s more practical outfit that she wears when she’s guiding us into the bayou. This is one princess with LOADS of style. Even her casual outfits are classy.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens in Magic Kingdom on June 28th, 2024. We still don’t have an official opening date for the ride in Disneyland, but we’ll be keeping an eye out.
