Your Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party FAQ

If you love Halloween in Disney World, there’s an EXCLUSIVE way to celebrate the year’s spookiest holiday!

Halloween in Magic Kingdom!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately-ticketed event in Magic Kingdom, taking place on 37 select nights, with all kinds of fun and exclusive entertainment. Because it’s the first time this party has been held since 2019, it’s natural to have questions, so we asked AllEars readers, “What do you want to know about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?”

We reached out on Facebook (go ahead and follow us if you want to share your opinions in the future!) and our readers have a lot of questions — so we’ve created a list of FAQs based on the most common questions!

What kind of exclusive snacks are available?

Several readers asked about the available snacks during the party, including Amanda H. asking, “Will food or snacks be provided?” Reader Ashley R. added a request for the “best snacks.” There is a selection of exclusive eats and drinks ONLY available during the party, with some quick service and table service restaurants also open for diners.

Almond Sweet Corn Cake

Some of our favorite party exclusives included the Almond Sweet Corn Cake, Un Poco Loco Tots, and Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake!

There are also some Halloween treats available all day in Magic Kingdom, so if you happen to be in Magic Kingdom before the party, you can also try some of our Halloween favorites like the Bayou Burger, Winifred’s Elixir of Youth, and the Sweet Candy Corn Soft Serve.

What rides have special Halloween overlays?

Select Magic Kingdom rides are open during the party (although you can’t use Genie+), and a few get special Halloween overlays ONLY during the party. Reader Jason P. asked, “Are there any rides that have overlays like they do for Christmas season?”

Mad Tea Party Halloween Overlay

Yes! You can check out spooky ride overlays at Pirates of the Caribbean, Mad Tea Party, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, and Space Mountain. Each ride gets a different effect, from decor and lights to actual live pirates on Pirates of the Caribbean.

Real pirates!

These overlays can ONLY be experienced during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so you must have a ticket to get these exclusive ride opportunities.

Check out more photos of the ride overlays here!

Will there be exclusive party merchandise?

Many of our readers were curious to know about the merchandise, with reader Diane S. asking, “Will there be party specific merchandise?” Yes! Available at the Emporium, you can choose from party merchandise such as t-shirts, spirit jerseys, housewares, and more.

Spirit Jersey back

Shopping for these exclusive items begins at 7PM (when the party officially begins) and we’ve seen large crowds in the Emporium at that time, so you might want to shop later in the night if you want to avoid long lines!

What could you expect from the crowds?

Crowds seemed to be on the minds of many of our readers. After all, when you’re paying over $100 per ticket for an exclusive after-hours event, you might hope that it’s a little less crowded than your average day in Magic Kingdom. Reader Jennifer K. asked, “What is the approximate crowd size?”

Entrance to Magic Kingdom around 4PM

Ticketholders can begin entering Magic Kingdom at 4PM, even though the party doesn’t start until 7PM, and we saw large crowds at the gates of Magic Kingdom beginning before 4PM.

If you want to get inside Magic Kingdom as soon as you can, we recommend getting in line around 3PM (or earlier). If you have valid ticket admission and a Magic Kingdom park reservation, you enter Magic Kingdom as early as you want!

Oof!

Once the party began at 7PM, the crowds seemed to decrease, but they gathered back up again for things like the parades and the fireworks.

Crowds waiting for fireworks

It might be slightly less crowded than a typical evening in Magic Kingdom but you also won’t be experiencing a totally empty park. Keep that in mind if one of your biggest hopes for the party is small crowds!

What characters are available for meet-and-greets?

SO MANY readers wanted to know which characters are present at the party! Reader Olivia S. asked, “What characters are out? Any rare ones?” During our recent visit to the party, we spotted Madame Renatta by the Haunted Mansion…

…as well as popular characters like Jack and Sally and Mickey and Minnie. If you take a look at the party map, look carefully for tiny black bats. They indicate WHERE you can find a character, though they don’t tell you WHO they are! You can also find the character locations (just not who) in the My Disney Experience app.

Now you can find the candy QUICKLY!

You can catch other rare characters, like Powerline Max, before and during the Boo-to-You Parade! They’re not available for meet-and-greets but you can still get plenty of fun photos of them passing by.

Powerline!

Your mileage may vary depending on the night you attend and you must also keep in mind that some of the more popular character meet-and-greets (like Jack and Sally) can have VERY long waits. Plan accordingly depending on what you would like to do during the party!

What kind of entertainment is there?

In addition to all the characters you can see, you can also check out a TON of entertainment! You can check out the Boo-to-You Parade (weather-permitting) at 9:15PM and 11:15PM.

You’ll see all sorts of villains in this show!

Is the Headless Horseman back?

Several readers, such as Amy M. asked, “Is the Headless Horseman back??” Luckily, we have the answer — which is YES! The Headless Horseman is BACK for a ride through Magic Kingdom, and the only way to catch him is right before the Boo-to-You Parade.

So cool!

The horseman rides an actual horse so keep in mind that if the weather is rainy or even if the ground is wet, the horseman will not ride. But if you’re in luck, you can catch him right as the parade begins. You’ll notice the lights dim and spooky music playing, and he rides all the way down the parade route, finishing on Main Street, U.S.A.

The Headless Horseman!

The Boo-to-You Parade is scheduled for 9:15PM and 11:15PM, and it begins in Frontierland and ends on Main Street, U.S.A.

What are the best photo ops?

There are several 3D photo backdrops available exclusively during the party,  such as a Headless Horseman backdrop or a Hocus Pocus 2 backdrop.

And if you prefer Magic Shots, there are 12 Halloween party Magic Shots available! Try asking each PhotoPass photographer you find about which Magic Shots are available, and we found fun ones involving pumpkins, a cauldron, and more.

What happens if it rains?

Disney World is in Florida — so weather happens, and there is a possibility of rain on the night of your party. If that happens to you and you end up missing out on things (like the parade, for example), you can stop by Guest Relations to inquire about the possibility of a “rain check.

What do you do if it rains all night?

Disney’s version of a rain check is typically tickets to another party date or a one-day park ticket, and they’re generally issued on a case-by-case basis. Note that there is NO guarantee that you’ll be granted compensation, but it might be worth a stop by to ask about it. Remember to be kind and courteous to Cast Members!
