We Went to the FIRST 2022 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World — Here’s What You Need to Know

It’s here, it’s FINALLY here!

Halloween in Magic Kingdom

We’re at the opening night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party as the event makes its triumphant return to Disney World. This is the first time the party has been hosted at Magic Kingdom since 2019, so we’re very excited to check out all the fun this evening. Follow along with us!

In 2022 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will take place on 37 different nights from August 12th-October 31st. Tickets are available through the Disney World website, with some dates already sold out. Pricing will vary depending on when you visit, but tickets start at $109 per adult.

We got our tickets for tonight’s event ahead of time, so we’re good to get this party started!

Atmosphere

Guests with party tickets can enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4PM, even though the event doesn’t start until 7PM.

There’s a special entrance!

You’ll need to pick up your special party wristband before MNSSHP begins, which can be done as you enter the park or if you’re already inside, at one of the designated wristband pickup locations. We spotted one in Tomorrowland.

If you’re entering the park at or after 4PM, you’ll be directed through a specific entrance area just for party guests!

Follow the signs!

The signage directs party guests down a side pathway behind Main Street, U.S.A. Here, we spotted some fun decorative touches — it’s Pluto…

Hey Pluto!

…and Minnie! Their statue forms are dressed up in Halloween costumes, how cute!

Witch Minnie Mouse!

On the side pathway, we were able to pick up our complimentary trick-or-treating bag. This year’s design says “Let’s BOO this!” on one side…

This year’s bag design.

…and the 50th Anniversary logo on the other side.

We’ve seen this logo a LOT this year!

There’s plenty of space inside to store all those sweets we’re going to collect throughout the night, we can’t wait!

Inside the bag

To keep the two sets of guests separate, there’s also a specific exit path for those without party tickets.

Park exit for guests without tickets.

Of course, we wanted to get a guide map for the evening so that we could keep up with everything going on.

It’s HERE!

Inside, you’ll find all the important party details, including special snacks, ride overlays, and the entertainment schedule.

Plenty of useful info.

It also has all the main features of a regular park map, but with some not-so-spooky additions!

Now you can find those trick-or-treat stations FAST

After that, we headed down Main Street, U.S.A. to see what the crowds were like pre-party. It was somewhat busy already with a mix of party guests and day guests at the 4PM hour. (Reminder that the park closes to regular guests at 6PM.)

It’s somewhat busy already!

For the first night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, tickets are all sold out. So we’ll get a real glance at what the crowds look like for a sold-out event tonight!

Tickets are all sold out!

Now that we’ve got all of the initial details out of the way, let’s dive into all the not-so-scary fun!

Party-Exclusive Merchandise

If you want to check out the event-exclusive merchandise, then you’ll want to head to The Emporium during your visit to MNSSHP! Here, we found this year’s collection, and there’s a lot to see.

Spirit Jersey back

There were multiple new shirts (including a spirit jersey), some home decor, and even a couple of Annual Passholder exclusives. But you may have to fight the crowds inside the shop — it was very busy during our visit!

Parades and Fireworks

But what about the awesome entertainment options? There are SO many to see this year, starting with the parade and the fireworks show.

Crowds waiting for fireworks

Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade happens twice each night at 9:15PM and 11:15PM. We haven’t seen this parade since 2019!

Unfortunately, the first parade was canceled on opening night due to rainy weather. The second parade happened on schedule!

Buzz Lightyear!

During the parade, we got to see all of our favorite characters, including the Disney villains!

Villains float

And of course, Mickey and friends made an appearance in their Halloween costumes. Aren’t they adorable?!

Minnie’s all dressed up!

We also made sure to catch Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular. This fireworks show lights up the night sky at 10:15PM. Due to weather, the show was delayed, but still took place.

Throughout this fireworks extravaganza, you’ll be treated to many appearances by Disney villains!

Oogie Boogie!

Check out footage from the show below!

It’s the ultimate fireworks show for Halloween fans — make sure you don’t miss it if you’re going to this year’s party.

Other Entertainment

But that’s not all the entertainment! There are also a variety of musical acts and stage shows to look out for. The Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular happens multiple times a night at 8:35PM, 10:45PM, and 12AM. (Showtimes change to 7:40PM, 8:35PM, and 10:45PM in October.) Due to inclement weather, the first performance was delayed and the second was canceled altogether.

Thankfully, we were able to catch the midnight show, although it started a few minutes late. This is a great performance for those who love Disney villains.

The Sanderson Sisters!

If you’re a Dapper Dans fan, you’ll be glad to know that they were present tonight — as the Cadaver Dans! We spotted them in Frontierland up on the balcony. Stop by each party to hear them sing some spooky tunes.

In Storybook Circus, your little ones will love the Disney Junior Jam dance party! Typically, characters will appear here and dance along with the kiddos, but there weren’t any present when we stopped by.

An oddly quiet Disney Junior Jam

Something new to the party this year is the ZOM BEATZ BASH at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. This is likely to be one of the more popular dance parties due to the location…and ya know, the zombies.

And if two dance parties weren’t enough, we’ve got a THIRD in Tomorrowland! the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball is taking place throughout the night on the Rockettower Plaza Stage.

There’s a LOT of entertainment this year, and we’re all about it!

Photo Opportunities

Did you REALLY go to Not-So-Scary if you don’t snap a few pics? For those looking to get that Insta-worthy moment, there are several photo ops as well as some Magic Shots with PhotoPass photographers that you’ll want to check out. First up, we spotted this display themed to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow Photo Op

And you know our team had to snap a pic with this Hocus Pocus 2 photo op over by Liberty Square. Say hi to Emma, Quincy, and Breedlove, who are covering this exciting event for us!

It’s all a bunch of hocus pocus!

We’ll be on the lookout for more opportunities to grab fun photos throughout the night!

Trick-Or-Treating

One of the big highlights of Not-So-Scary is the trick-or-treating that’s included with your park ticket. There are stations set up around Magic Kingdom where you can pick up candy throughout the night!

Trick-or-Treating

Make sure to look out for the giant inflatable signs so you know where to go!

Since Disney has a partnership with MARS, that’s the candy that they offer during the party. This includes M&Ms, Snickers, Skittles, and the like.

Character Interactions

Like most hard-ticketed events, there are plenty of unique character interactions to check out! We saw several popular Disney pals throughout the night…as well as some rare characters as well.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!

In Tomorrowland, we spotted Stitch dressed up as Elvis! Very fitting for Halloween.

Over by Haunted Mansion, different characters from the attraction were outside throughout the night. When we stopped by, it was Madame Renatta.

You can also stand in line for meet and greets with characters like Mickey and Minnie or Jack and Sally. So many Disney pals to look out for!

Ride Overlays

As an added bonus, a select few rides have special overlays for the party. At Mad Tea Party, there was a spooky lighting and music package for the night.

Pirates of the Caribbean had arguably the BEST overlay, with rogue pirates hanging throughout the queue to talk to guests, sing songs, or just get into trouble. We highly recommend checking this one out!

Real pirates!

And Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor was done up for the season as well. During Halloween, you’ll get special jokes and some on-screen decorations.

At Space Mountain, the outside of the attraction is lit up in Halloween colors, but on the inside, the lights are OUT. The “deep space” version of the attraction during MNSSHP is even darker than the original.

If you get the chance, make sure to visit some of these rides throughout the night!

Food & Drink

And last but not least, let’s talk FOOD! There are several exclusive snacks and drinks this year that you’ll want to check out. First is the Jack-O-Lantern Float from Sunshine Tree Terrace. It’s made with citrus swirl and Fanta Orange, topped with graham cracker crumbs. You can order one for $6.99.

One of this year’s most interesting snacks is the Almond Sweet Corn Cake…YES, that’s a cake, not a real ear of corn! This one can be found at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe for $5.79, and it was a hit with our team.

We also have the lovely Chilling Chamber Pop at Sleepy Hollow. It’s made with chocolate crumbs, cherry buttercream, and dark chocolate pearls topped with a Tightrope Walker chocolate piece. You can grab one of these sweets for $5.49.

At Golden Oak Outpost, check out the Spellbinding Fried Pie, made with buffalo chicken, mozzarella, and blue cheese wrapped in flaky dough and topped with a candy eye and jalapeño ranch aïoli. Since it’s somewhat hefty, it’s a bit more expensive at $9.99.

One thing that wasn’t nearly as pretty as we expected? The Grave Digger Milkshake! Found at Sleepy Hollow for $7.99, this poor treat looked a little bit sad and melty. It’s made with coconut and matcha blended soft-serve, topped with whipped cream, a grave digger shovel, and a chocolate gravestone.

However, the Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake (also at Sleepy Hollow) was rather impressive. It’s topped with chocolate ice cream, chocolate cookie crumbs, gummy worms, and a Billy chocolate piece. Grab this yummy treat for $8.99.

At Friar’s Nook, we’ve got two savory snacks to try out! First up are the Un Poco Loco Tots, with chorizo sausage, green onion, and Hades’s cheese sauce. An order of these will cost you $11.49.

And if you want something extra spicy, try out the Hades Hot Dog, with a spicy beef and pork hot dog, Hades’s relish, pickles, and house-made violet mustard. Interesting indeed. Pick this one up for $9.99.

Don’t tell Snow White, but during MNSSHP you can grab the Not-So-Poison Apple Pie Milkshake at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies! It’s an apple pie milkshake with green apple whipped cream, a sour apple marshmallow straw, cinnamon donuts, and a poison apple straw. They were out of green apple whipped cream on night one, but you could still grab it with regular whipped cream for $8,49.

If you stop by the popcorn cart near Cinderella Castle, make sure to check out the Mexican Spiced Hot Coco Brownie. This new treat is a spiced chocolate brownie with a dark chocolate ganache, topped with a Miguel chocolate piece. That’s a lot of chocolate! Grab it during the party for $5.25.

Disney’s apparently very into the whole “give your snacks eyeballs” thing this year because we also got the Monster Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Two cookies are sandwiched with vanilla ice cream for $6.49.

  1. Are there still free Mickey bars, ice cream sandwiches and popcorn included with the Halloween party admission, as in prior years?

I have not seen any mention of these previously included treats.

  2. HI. Thanks for this. Are the special food items only available during the “party” or can they be purchased during the day hours?
