Five Walt Disney World Hotels You’ll Hate for Unexpected Reasons

Over the years, we’ve had a wide variety of experiences at the Disney World Resort hotels!

In our many resort stays, we’ve taken notice of the good, the bad, and the ugly. We’ve developed our list of favorite hotels and those that we don’t like quite as much.

Today, we’re sharing some unexpected reasons that you might dislike certain Disney World hotels!

Internal Bus Loops

Several resort hotels, including Caribbean Beach, Old Key West, Coronado Springs, and others, have internal bus loops because the properties are so large. If you choose to walk from one point to another within the Resort, it may take you a LONG time to get anywhere. It can be particularly exhausting at the end of the night, so keep that in mind when booking your hotel.

Low Ceilings

One thing that surprised us about both Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge was that the rooms’ ceilings were weirdly low. It’s not a huge problem, and the resorts make up for it with the views and theming, but it can be off-putting. It might be a more serious problem if you have tall guests in your party, but otherwise, it just seems a little odd.

Pet-Friendly Hotels

Some of Disney World’s resorts are pet-friendly, including Art of Animation, Port Orleans — Riverside, Yacht Club, and the Fort Wilderness Cabins. If you have a pet with you, this can be incredibly helpful, but there are some downsides for those traveling sans animals.

Art of Animation Resort

In the past, we’ve stayed at pet-friendly hotels and heard dogs barking constantly until their owners came back to the resort. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it can be difficult to deal with if you’re trying to rest. Disney does have policies in place regarding pets and noise (i.e. dogs are not supposed to be left alone for more than seven hours), but noise can still be an issue.

Mobile Furniture

At Disney World’s Value Resorts, we often find that the furniture isn’t rooted to the floor. This was especially true in the family suites at Art of Animation, and it felt strangely cheap that we had the ability to rearrange the entire room. In the more expensive resorts, the furniture is firmly stationed so that things don’t change.

Monorail Woes

Finally, let’s discuss the monorail woes of the Contemporary Resort! The hotel has both a walking path and monorail access to Magic Kingdom. If you don’t want to walk, the monorail is your best option. However, you’ll have to wait through three different stops before you get to the park, and it can take much longer than expected.

On top of that, the monorail rolling through the open hotel can make the resort very loud, so you may not find it as relaxing as other Deluxe Resort hotels. (Although the A-frame shape of the building is extra fun!)

  1. Disney Port Orleans Riverside used to be our favorite resort. The last time we stayed, it was the worst trip ever. This was the 3rd time we stayed with our dog who doesn’t bark nor has ruined anything. The hotel insisted on doing security checks everyday. Well since we had a dog, they could not get in the room. 3 phone calls on the first day. We explained our situation with the dog, but they insisted on having to see our room everyday. My husband gave in to a 7am daily check. They were late everyday, so one of us was in the bathroom getting ready. The staff walked toward the bathroom door to grab the handle, 3 days in a row. We consistently had to tell them, my spouse is in the shower or going to the bathroom. My husband got very adamant on the 4th day that the lady was not to go into the bathroom while I was in the shower. Finally the last day, they were on time and checked the bathroom as well. Needless to say, we were angry and aggravated every day for about 3 hours. Of course on the day that I planned to sleep in, they came and walked through the room while I was lying in bed. Very rude and definitely not Disney. The staff said that is just the way it is and it needs to be done everyday. We were absolutely shocked and had an awful time. We will never stay there again. We have a reservation at the Yacht Club in April but not sure if we will go. It was not a vacation staying at Port Orleans Riverside. We are so disappointed.

      1. I don’t know, but this sounds like such an extreme case. We had a guy knock on our door 1 of the 6 days during our last trip & he didn’t even come in. I told him everyone was sleeping (truth) & he went on his way.
