Walt Disney World’s EPCOT is getting a bit of a makeover, and thanks to Disney Imagineering we got a first look at the new entrance fountain!
EPCOT’s transformation will take place over the next few years and include a new look, new dining, and new pavilions. Some projects like the Mary Poppins attraction and Spaceship Earth refurbishment have been postponed indefinitely. While others, like the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, are still in the works. Imagineer Zach Riddley gave us a sneak peek of the highly-anticipated main entrance fountain that will frame the beloved Spaceship Earth.
Riddley described the inspiration for the fountain in a statement on Instagram: “I’m excited to share a first look at the pylons we installed last night as we continue to reimagine the EPCOT main entrance fountain, which has anchored this area since the park opened in 1982. Our design team took special interest in looking back to the original geometry for inspiration and infusing new features with a little bit of added magic to bridge the past, present and future of EPCOT. These majestic pylons also draw your eye upward toward the sky and perfectly frame views of the iconic Spaceship Earth attraction.”
The fountain features vertical pylons that are reminiscent of the first lucite fountain that originally welcomed guests to the theme park. The architectural throwback is highly-anticipated for retro EPCOT fans everywhere.
Riddley also stated that the fountain will be fully revealed later this year. You can see the finished fountain in the EPCOT transformation concept art below.
