Now that we’re back in Disney World, we’re thrilled to see all the animals out and about again in Animal Kingdom!

Kilimanjaro Safaris has re-opened with a tour of the lions and tigers and MONKEYS for guests to see!
Now, Animal Kingdom is also celebrating the arrival of a new animal in the park! First-time father Linus and mother Scarlett have officially welcomed a mandrill infant to their family as of July 25th.

Since the mother has been keeping her baby so close to her belly, Animal Kingdom’s veterinary team wasn’t able to determine if the baby is a boy or a girl yet. However, guests can spot the baby and Scarlett out and about with the other mandrill monkeys from time to time during the Kilimanjaro Safaris tour.

Dr. Mark Penning will be sharing the baby’s name and gender on his Instagram soon! In case you don’t know anything about mandrills, they are the largest species of monkey in the world. However, their habitat is disappearing since deforestation and poaching is happening.

Although Disney is doing its part to take care of these beautiful creatures, it’s also important to continue supporting organizations like the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) on Species Survival Plans (SSPs). You can take a look at the new baby mandrill in Animal Kingdom’s video here!
