Epcot Construction Update: Guardians of the Galaxy, Space 220, Regal Eagle, and More

A long time ago in a Disney Park far, far away (no, not that Park), construction started. And it just kept going. We’re talking about Epcot.  And today we take a look at the continuing saga with a few small construction updates.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Construction continues on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride coming to Future World. This new attraction is taking over the previous location of Ellen’s Universe of Energy.

We don’t have an exact opening date other than the one-of-a-kind coaster opening in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021, but things are moving along. Below is the current appearance of construction on the building that will house this attraction.

Space 220

Forget about Galaxy’s Edge, with Space 220 you will be eating somewhere that actually feels like it is in space. This new space-themed restaurant will be the first new restaurant in Future World in some time. Space 220 is set to open in early-2020

The entrance of Space 220 is expected to be immediately off the MISSION: Space pavilion and lead into the area on the left in the photo below (mostly obscured by trees).

Right now the exterior of the right side of the restaurant is a lovely shade of go-away green (is that a thing?). It’s expected that the interior of this massive curved wall will be a huge curved screen featuring ‘live’ views of space — day or night!

Regal Eagle Smokehouse

Four score and a few months ago they brought forth upon the American Adventure pavilion the start of a new restaurant. The new barbecue joint is set to open this month (although, looking at the construction we can see, they’ll be cutting it close). Last week, there were no discernible exterior walls, and from the looks of it, some windows and siding are not installed. Hopefully that means progress will cruise along.

Regal Eagle exterior update

Over the last few weeks we have seen walls come down and a new patio open at Regal Eagle.

This is open for folks looking to relax, and when the restaurant opens, there will be a lot more seating here (according to the concept art).

Italy Pavilion — New Year’s Eve Set-Up

One of the most popular days to go to Disney World is New Year’s Eve. The parks can (and have) reached capacity as guests look to ring in the new year in the Most Magical way possible. With the new decade approaching the Italy Pavilion in the World Showcase is setting up for New Year’s Eve. It appears to be a set-up for a small stage show, but we’ll keep an eye on this space.

Le Vins de France

If you’ve ever thought the France Pavilion needed more wine, you are in luck. A new pop-up wine bar in the World Showcase has been set up between France and Morocco.

A little more wine couldn’t hurt Epcot, and France is just far enough from Italy that by the time we get there we’ll be ready for another glass. We’re guessing the pop-up wine locale is meant to handle the spirited holiday crowds leading up to New Year’s Eve.

Construction, as you can tell, is on-going at Epcot, so we’ll keep bringing you updates.

And if you’ve got a specific aspect of Epcot’s transformation that you’d like to learn more about, be sure to let us know in the comments!
