Tips for Disney Parks & Cruise Lines

When booking airfare check the fares during the day, but check again at night after 8 p.m. Sometimes they are less. I am flying from Orlando to Atlanta in October. The one-way fare was $99. When I checked later that night, it was down to $69. The next morning, back to $99. And so on. I checked this three different days until I finally booked at the $69 rate. Michelle

We just returned from our first trip to Disney World since having kids. I was a little anxious about how I would be able to make bottles for our 10 month old daughter at the parks--I didn't want to rely on trekking to the baby care stations every time. I found that at any counter service/quick service location in the parks I could ask for a cup of hot water to make a bottle--they must get this request a lot because everyone was ready and willing to hand over a hot cup of water (and for free of course). I just mixed in some of my own ice water with the hot and made the perfect bottle every time. It was a great time saver for us and kept our daughter happy. - Matt & Ellen Evans

My husband and our two daughters age 3 and 5, love to pin trade when we visit Walt Disney which is usually 2 times a year. As anyone can tell you the pins are not cheap and usually when we buy some they don't want to trade those away. So on our last trip in April 2004, I started collecting pins on ebay and Disney Deals.com at a much cheaper price a few months beforehand and those we took to the theme parks and traded away. My husband and daughter's loved it and it was much cheaper too. - April Coughlan

If you are going to be in the park all day with small children, invest in a small collapsible cooler that can fill inside your luggage. These cooler are inexpensive to purchase. Walmart has them for $6.00. After you arrive in Disney fill it each morning with a six pack of water and some ice from the hotel. Bottle water is about $3-4 dollars for a six pack, verses the $3.00+ per bottle you will pay inside the park. These coolers have arm straps, and can easily be hung from your stroller. Many cast members were gracious enough to throw a couple of scoops of fresh ice into the cooler. The security guards at the front gate overlook the no food brought into the park. My husband and I did this last year and we literally save over 20 dollars a day by not buying the water in the park. - Peggy, Point Pleasant, NJ

When at WDW, no matter the time of year, there always seem to be a "wait" for something! We help pass the time with our 3 yr old by packing a deck of cards. While waiting for meals, Mickey's Philharmagic, parades, and even the boat back to the hotel, we'll play quick games of "Go Fish" or "Crazy Eights." She'll even make up her own games to help pass the time. It's truly been a lifesaver for an ansy little pre-schooler! - Alison Boeckman

We are going to Disney World and have two rooms, with two room reservations. We recently changed children from one room to another and discovered that when you change a person in a room it deletes any FastPass+ they may have scheduled. We lost our Mine Train FastPasses for the two children. When I called Disney they said they couldn't help me, but if I needed to make a change again to make sure that the cast member making the change knew about any FastPasses so we wouldn't lose them. (We didn't lose any of our dinner reservations.) = Susan Brown

My wife and I took our daughter to WDW when she was three years old. Wanting to remember all that we did, we kept a journal of each day's activities. The pictures were later put into a scrapbook, but we did something else that has paid great dividends since. We incorporated the journal with numerous pictures (some were our pictures scanned in, some were "borrowed" from Disney.com and AllEars.Net) and created a newsletter in Microsoft Publisher. Now, whenever my daughter (who is now five) wants to relive the experience, we pull out the eight-page newsletter and give it a read. It has really helped her keep the memories of her first trip to WDW alive!!! - Steve Grohne

We just returned from our Spring Break trip on the 7-day Disney Cruise. It was a great adventure for my sons ages 5 & 8. I did several thing to extend the excitement of our trip. We mailed postcards to grandparents and friends at Castaway Cay and I secretly slipped in a card for them from Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. I also bought a box of Disney character cookies to pack along with a plastic sword (the ones that are used for the fruit garnish in the fun "adult" drinks) in their lunchboxes when they returned to school on Monday. They were delighted to have a little reminder of our vacation on their first day back to school! - Lisa Brannock

When we returned home, I couldn't wait to get back all the pictures of the two of them together with the characters and their grandparents. We were very disappointed that the negatives for five of the rolls were damaged during processing. We were heartbroken that we didn't get one picture of the kids with Mickey or many of the other characters. Next time we will have our film processed while we are there. That way if there are any pictures that don't come out, we can be sure to go back and try again. Although it may cost a little more, we won't lose the memories. - Jennifer, Binghamton, New York

My tip is to bring a package of good old fashion corn pads in my hip sack....the kind with the hole in the middle....and when I feel a blister starting, I put a corn pad on with the hole over the blister. Relief! - SGPEREIRA

One of our favorite souvenir items from Walt Disney World is picture frames. We have gotten quite a collection over the years. It is a wonderful way to remember your trip and you can fill them with pictures of your trip and look at them every day. We also have a collection of magnets, license plates and beach towels. - Deb Curl

We took two umbrella strollers on our last trip and wanted a way to keep them clean and together since we needed to check them as baggage. We bought a bag at a sporting goods store designed to hold a golf bag for about $10 on sale. Both umbrella strollers fit comfortably so one would be just fine. We even had room to stuff in a few souvenir sweat shirts. Custom stroller bags are available from some kid catalog places,but they can cost over $100. This is a much cheaper and easier option! - Diane
