Tips about Epcot, Kids, Magic Kingdom, Mousecellaneous, Pins and Planning

I have a tip about an AllEars Hears item, which said WDW wedding packages start at $4,000. You can be married at The Swan and Dolphin resorts for much less and still receive some of the benefits of a Walt Disney World Wedding, including appearances by characters like Mickey and Minnie. Packages start at around $2,200. Shades of Green is another lower-cost option (for those who have family in the military). - C. Hayward

My husband and 4-month-old daughter (yes, we really took a 4-month-old to Walt Disney World -- we were THOSE people) just returned from the World. I had read on your amazing website about the Baby Care Centers, and I couldn't recommend their use enough. These areas are the most wonderful places. This is our first child so we didn't even know they existed. There are rooms for changing, feeding, breastfeeding and Mommy and Daddy bathrooms, all in an air-conditioned area. There are essentials for sale and a lovely Disney cast member working and helping in any way they can. These centers are a must for anyone with a child. I cannot express how thrilled we were with the facilities. I would encourage anyone to use them to the fullest! - Bethany Lazzara

Epcot - For anyone with ties to General Motors, make sure to take advantage of the GM suite at Test Track. There is a great lounge with a huge window overlooking the park and you can get free drinks while you relax. You can also bypass the line and get right on the ride (better than Fastpass). CHRISTMAS - I'm 14 and today I was decorating my mini Christmas tree in my bedroom. Since we are going to the World on December 15, I was trying to think of a way to bring Disney magic to my tree. Then I found the perfect thing! I took all of my pins and laid them out on my bed. Then, I took some thread and cut pieces about five inches long and looped the thread around the pointy part leaving the back on. Simply tie the string together and *ta-da* you have an instant ornament! It also puts your pins on display instead of them sitting on a shelf gathering dust. - Leah

I love having Disney reminders everywhere. I think it is wonderful that even pets can get into the action. But what if you are like us and have a feathered pet? Well, we bought our parakeet, Mr. Freeze, a Mickey-shaped pet tag and hung it in his cage! He really enjoyed looking at it and playing with it. It was shiny, reflective and noisy. We then purchased a pet tag in the shape of a star with Tinker Bell, and he is in LOVE! Each time I clean his cage, he guards it with his... beak. So even if you don't have a furry pet, check out some of the pet items and see if they will work to share the magic with everyone in your family! - Kimberly K. Lawton

I print out clear labels with all of our information and bring along extra to label everything that we get new at the parks, from our cups to our PhotoPass. The extra labels are great in case you do forget to label something before you leave and the clear labels blend right in. - Cara Martin

My tip is for the trading pins. We always have problems with the backs falling off and my girls have lost a few pins (as well as had some near misses). This past trip, my husband bought a small bag of the locking backs (which are not cheap) and honestly, we even had problems with them falling off. On the day we were in Animal Kingdom, as he was putting the locking back on some of the pins, we starting talking to a nice man who is really into the pin thing. He told us a trick he does with the rubber Mickey-shaped pin backs and he has never lost one: As you start to put the black rubber back on, push the "handle" part of the back to the side, so that the "stem" pushes through at an angle, and sticks out the side of the handle part of the back. This really locks them into place. - L. Burke

My family and I are currently on holiday in Florida, and we were approached the other day in the Magic Kingdom by two cast members who told us we had been selected at random to receive special "Year of a Million Dreams" lanyards, complete with two pins which cannot be bought, and therefore should not be traded. Naturally, we were delighted, but if you are the lucky recipient of one of these lanyards, please be warned -- three of us have lost our pins, which have accidentally fallen off. The Mickey shaped backs are not very secure, and unfortunately we didn't notice we had lost them until it was too late. Better to remove the pins as soon as you get them, keep them safe, and simply wear your special lanyard. - Kirsten Tomlinson from Montrose, Scotland

My 10-year-old son had scout camp this summer. I wanted to include a few essentials in his backpack, but I knew they would end up lost at the bottom. I got a plastic coupon organizer (the accordion wallet type) and put bandages in one section, bug repellant in another, along with hand wipes, sunscreen, etc. It worked so well that I have added the coupon organizer to my "Disney supplies." I think it will keep our trip backpack organized as well! I plan to add in individual packs of over-the-counter medicines. - Beth Spellman

Start with the letter "A" and the first person has to name a Disney character that starts with the letter "A," like Ariel. The next person has to name a character whose name starts with the letter "B," such as Br'er Rabbit, and so on. Once you reach "Z" start over back at "A" but you can't use the same character twice. If you need a hint for "X", there is a Buzz Lightyear character named XR. It's fun for kids and adults. ALL PARKS - I am from Colorado where we are on Mountain Time. In addition to feeling like it is two hours earlier when we are in Florida, we let our kids stay up later on vacation. This works out really well for Extra Magic Evening Hours. We were recently at the Magic Kingdom where the Extra Magic Evening Hours were from 9 p.m. to midnight. For us, it felt like 7 to 10 p.m. During that time, we went on all the kiddie rides with our 3- and 4-year olds with absolutely no lines! We were able to save the hot afternoons for the pool rather than waiting in lines. - Laura Moos
