There are some big changes you’ll need to plan for if you’re heading to Universal Orlando in 2026!

Whether you’re visiting Universal Orlando’s newest park, Epic Universe, checking out a seasonal event like Halloween Horror Nights, or just returning for some of your tried-and-true favorite experiences, some major changes could impact your Universal trip this year!
Don’t let these 2026 Universal Orlando updates catch you off guard!
No More Express Pass for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is a thrilling, fast-paced roller coaster that takes guests on a tour of the Forbidden Forest. It’s one of the most popular rides in Islands of Adventure, and often racks up wait times of two hours or more.

In the past, the coaster has been included in Universal’s skip-the-line Express Pass service, which allows guests to bypass the standby line in favor of the shorter Express Pass line. But if you were planning on taking advantage of this on your trip, we’ve got some bad news!

As of July 1st, 2026, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is no longer included in the Express Pass service, meaning that the standby line will be the only option for guests who want to experience the ride. If this attraction is on your must-do list, keep in mind that you’ll need to wait in the standby line to ride it now, even if you have Express Pass for the day, and plan accordingly!

On the plus side, the other rides in Hogsmeade, including Flight of the Hippogriff, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and the Hogwarts Express, will continue to offer an Express Pass line.
Multi-Day Tickets for Epic Universe
When Epic Universe first opened in 2025, only one-day tickets to the park were available. But as of 2026, the options have expanded!

In 2026, Universal began offering additional ticket options for Epic Universe, including park-to-park and multi-day access in 3, 4, and 5-day increments.

The additional ticket options will give you more flexibility when planning your 2026 visit to Epic Universe, especially if you’d like to experience the other Universal parks as well!
Seasonal Volcano Bay Closure
Calling all the water park fans, this is a MAJOR change you’ll want to mark on your calendar! Universal’s water park, Volcano Bay, typically operates year-round, outside of weather-related closures. But that won’t be the case in 2026, with a lengthy closure scheduled to start later this year.

Volcano Bay will close for refurbishment on October 26th, 2026, and is currently scheduled to remain closed until April 1st, 2027. The lengthy, five-month refurbishment will include extensive maintenance work, and the timeline is subject to change.

If a trip to the water park is a must-do for your family, you may want to avoid scheduling your vacation during this five-month stretch so you don’t miss out on Volcano Bay!
No Free Parking After Midnight at Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights is one of the most popular seasonal events at Universal Orlando. This year’s event will take place on select dates from August 28th through November 1st, but there’s an important change you need to know about before budgeting for your spooky season trip.

In previous years, Universal Orlando parking was free after midnight on evenings when Halloween Horror Nights took place. That meant whether you were meeting friends in CityWalk or heading to HHN late, you could take advantage of free parking, as long as you waited until after midnight. But this year, Universal has updated its website to say that parking will be regular price until 2 AM. Since that’s the time Halloween Horror Nights ends, there will be no way to bypass the parking fee this time around.

Currently, self-parking is $35 for vehicles at Universal Orlando, or $32 if you pre-pay, so be sure to build that into your budget if you previously took advantage of the free late-night parking.
Expanded Photo Validation at Epic Universe
In recent years, Universal has implemented Photo Validation for entry into select parks and locker rentals. Essentially, this is a system in which your face is scanned upon park entry or at the lockers, to serve as your “ticket,” eliminating the need for a physical ticket.

But a recent update from Universal suggests that they’ll be expanding Photo Validation at Epic Universe even more. According to the information provided, Universal states that they will be using Photo Validation at each portal in Epic Universe.

The “portals” are the entrances to each of the lands within Epic Universe, and guests have never been required to show a ticket to enter each portal in the past, which is where this update gets interesting. The website describes how Photo Validation will be used: “To keep your passage easy, you can use Photo Validation for Effortless Entry whenever Virtual Line return times are being used.” However, at this point, a “Virtual Line” system has not been used at Epic Universe.

This suggests that Universal is expecting a spike in attendance that could require Virtual Lines to get the portals at a manageable level in the future. It’s not clear whether the expected spike is due to seasonal patterns, like summer crowds, or if it’s a sign that another demand-generating update is in the works (like the introduction of Epic Universe Annual Passes fans have been asking for), but we’re keeping a close eye out for any more updates.
