Disney is sharing more details and a NEW look at the updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction in Magic Kingdom.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed on August 4th, 2025, to undergo a refurbishment that will include introducing a new character, updated ride vehicles, new targets, and more.
Disney showed some previously released concept art that shows Buddy the robot, who is joining the attraction as a new character. Buddy will be in a brand-new scene at the start of the ride where he will teach you how to play the game!

As well, we got a look at the new ride vehicles. The vehicles are getting a color update to match Star Command colors. The new vehicles will feature real-time tracking of the scores, and the vehicles will also feature handheld blasters to make shooting targets even easier.

The blasters will even react when you hit a target! We even got to see the new ride vehicles and blasters in person. There will be a red and green blaster in each ride vehicle, and the targets will light up with the corresponding target when hit. The targets don’t spin, but the lights rotate clockwise, and it makes a fun noise while your blaster vibrates.

The vehicles are supposed to look like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger suit, and they open up like a traditional clamshell. Each vehicle can hold up to three people (two adults and one small child), but there will only be two blasters per vehicle. We also noticed that it looks like there will be more space to score points, so we may be able to get over 999,999 when the ride reopens!

Speaking of targets, Disney also talked a bit more about the new targets. The new targets inside the attraction will all be getting an update. They will be interactive and react when you hit them. We have heard about these updates before as well, but it was exciting to hear them being talked about again!

Disney hasn’t announced when the attraction will reopen yet, except that it will be reopening sometime in 2026. But we will keep you updated as we learn more. I’m looking forward to the newly refurbished ride. It looks like it will be a lot more visually appealing compared to the old look where it had a lot going on, and it made it hard to look at.
Yes, I do love the buzz light year ride!
