Refurbishments are a fact of life in Walt Disney World. Rides, shows, and attractions are often closed for refreshes, repairs, and technological upgrades, some for longer times than others. In fact, it’s rare to have a day when EVERY attraction at the resort is operational, even during the busy summer season.

Over the last several weeks, THREE Disney attractions that had been closed for long-running refurbishments have reopened. Astro Orbiter and the Hall of Presidents have both reopened in the Magic Kingdom, while EPCOT’s upgraded Test Track is currently in previews with a public opening on July 22nd. However, those multiple reopenings have been paired with the news of two more closures.
First off, the Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be closed for a brief refurbishment from July 21st to the 26th for general maintenance. No changes are expected to be made to the attraction.

Meanwhile, over at EPCOT, the park’s iconic attraction will also be closing later this summer. According to Disney, Spaceship Earth will be “temporarily closed for a routine refurbishment beginning August 25th, 2025, and is planned to reopen later this year.”

These two attractions join Frontierland’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which has been closed since January 2025. The coaster will be under refurbishment until at least early 2026 when it will return to the Magic Kingdom with “new magic.”

Two new closures have been added to Disney World’s refurbishment calendar, though one of them is of the very temporary variety. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the resort’s calendar.

No wonder the parks are low capacity, too much construction and too many refurbs
