A new show is coming to Hollywood Studios!
At the end of 2023, it was announced that the Voyage of the Little Mermaid would not return after it closed due to the pandemic and did not re-open when the parks did. The good news is that it was announced that a brand-new Little Mermaid show would take its place in the exact location of Animation Courtyard. The show was set to open this fall, but recently, it was announced that it would be delayed. Although the production won’t open this year, a permit has just been filed for more work on the building.
It was just announced yesterday, October 14th, that the new show, “The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure,” will premiere in the summer of 2025 instead of the previous fall 2024 date. We speculated whether or not the show would open on time, and we did figure that Disney would push the date back.
Recently, we saw construction walls go up around the show building before the announcement was made that the opening date would be pushed back. Then today, we saw that a new permit had been filed for the show.
The new permit is for a brand-new sign to be installed in front of the show building, which makes sense since the show is getting a brand-new name. The permit was filed for work to be done by Design Communications, Ltd. based in Orlando.
While it is disappointing that the show’s opening has been pushed back, it is good to know that Disney is actively working on it. Hopefully, it will open in the summer of 2025, as now expected.
This is not the only show now coming to Hollywood Studios in the summer of 2025, as Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy recently closed to make way for a brand new Disney Villains stage show.
We will continue to monitor any information regarding the new show and other permits around Disney World. Construction will soon begin all around the resort to bring all the new projects announced at D23 to life.
